One of the best bell towers I have climbed is in Ponta Delgada. We visited the bell tower at my nephew's request, and it turned out to be one of the top attractions on São Miguel Island. There were a few forts in Ponta Delgada in the past, but all were demolished over time except one, the military fort of São Brás. Forte de São Brás is located near the port of Ponta Delgada. It is a coastal Renaissance fortress dating back to 1552 and now houses the Military Museum of the Azores. The entrance costs only 1€ per adult.
