Walking along the Danube River in Budapest was a memorable experience, offering breathtaking views of the city’s iconic landmarks and bridges. The path eventually led us to Gellért Hill, where we began the scenic climb to the Liberty Statue. Perched proudly at the top, this towering monument was erected in 1947 to honor those who sacrificed their lives for Hungary's freedom and independence. Standing beside the statue, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the entire city—Buda and Pest stretching out on either side of the Danube, with its shimmering waters reflecting the summer sunlight. Along the way, we stopped to admire the Statue of Stephen I of Hungary just outside Gellért Hill Cave. The beautifully crafted statue pays homage to Hungary’s first king, who brought Christianity to the nation, adding a sense of historical depth to our walk. Fisherman’s Bastion in Budapest is definitely one of our favorite spots, more than just a museum—it feels like stepping into a fairytale. Despite the summer crowds, the place still exudes a romantic charm that’s hard to resist. Its intricate neo-Gothic and Romanesque architecture, complete with seven picturesque turrets, creates a magical atmosphere. From the upper terraces, the panoramic views of the Danube, the Chain Bridge, and the iconic Parliament building are simply breathtaking, especially under the golden light of the sun. Strolling through this stunning landmark, we couldn’t help but feel enchanted by its beauty and history, making it a highlight of our time in Budapest.
Budapest: Paris can only be the 2nd most romantic city
Many see Paris (or France in general) the most romantic city in the Europe, but to me no place could top Budapest.
The Fisherman’s Bastion sitting high on the hill and overlooking the Danube river and historic bridges that join the once separated Buda & Pest, was pure beauty. It’s no wonder many couples could be seen taking their wedding shots there. It’s highly recommended to come here during the blue hours before sun even rises; the tone of the building could quickly turn orangish in an hour or so.
Many attraction sites are along the Danube River, like Chain Bridge, Liberty Bridge, Hungarian Parliament etc, which makes it an ideal route for city walk.

Located on the ground floor of the Hyatt Hotel in Budapest, this restaurant is absolutely stunning.
It’s also not far from the river, and the architecture is breathtaking. Walking inside, we found an incredibly beautiful dining area. On weekdays at lunchtime, there were still a few tables available, so it’s a good spot for a light lunch.
My friend ordered the foie gras salad, and the portion of foie gras was more than double what you’d get in the UK. Combined with the salad, it wasn’t overly rich.
I chose a chocolate dessert. The chocolate mousse was sweet but not too heavy, with a deliciously crisp layer on top. The purple flower garnish added an extra touch to the beautiful presentation.

Street food KARAVÁN is a fun place to pick up some relaxed street food.
Afternoon make your way to the city park with the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, just remember to take a towel & flip flops. It’s £20 off peak on the day & up to £38 if you book online in advance. The thermal baths & spa are amazing, remember to explore both sides of the indoor area, it’s much bigger than you think.

After our stop at Vienna, we arrived Budapest. It's a city that captivates with its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. It is divided by the mighty Danube River into two distinct areas: Buda and Pest. Buda, with its hilly terrain, is home to the historic Buda Castle and the picturesque Fisherman’s Bastion. The views from here are simply breathtaking, especially at sunset when the #budapest city lights start to twinkle. Budapest is lively at night, and all the restaurants are packed. My friend and I waited for half an hour to eat here, and it was absolutely worth it!
Lamb Soup
Made with a tomato-based broth, this soup has a sweet and sour flavor that’s refreshing and appetizing. The addition of chickpeas and tender, slow-cooked lamb creates a warm, comforting dish.
Budapest-Style Pork Chop
The pork chop is huge, with a thick layer of fat on top, served with foie gras and some potato chips—a unique style. The foie gras is delicious and pairs well with the slightly dry pork. So tasty!
Beef Stew with Homemade Spaetzle
The beef stew has a hint of wine aroma and melts in your mouth. Paired with spaetzle and sauce, it’s absolutely delicious!
For cocktails, my friend and I ordered a Passion Caipirinha and a Sour Cherry Margarita. Both were delicious but quite strong.
The dessert had a texture somewhat like mashed potatoes, with a slightly grainy feel. It was topped with pomegranate seeds and small blueberries, giving it a unique taste. Sweet but not overwhelming—delicious!

When we arrived, the ambiance was stunning. Surrounded by lush greenery and tropical umbrella decor, it felt like a tropical seaside escape.
My friend ordered eggs and a croissant, which were amazing. The croissant was especially soft.
The egg and tomato mixture had a tangy taste, and it paired perfectly with the bread!
Coffee was standard.

Budapest has beautiful architecture and a laid-back atmosphere.
I went from Vienna and spent two days sightseeing, but it was such a wonderful city that I wish I could have stayed longer.
I splurged and booked a hotel along the river,
and I never got bored of the riverside scenery even if I looked at it all day, and I once again understood why Budapest is called the pearl of the Danube.
It was very convenient to access the tourist spots by public transportation.
There were many wonderful general stores and cafes, so I think it's a recommended city for cafe lovers and general goods lovers!
In addition, the tourist spots are densely packed, so I was able to see a lot just by walking 😌

I’ve gotten used to Hungarian soups where even if it looks vegetarian, there’s always some meat, haha. This one was hearty, with a tomato-based broth that was sweet and tangy, featuring sliced sausages, beans, and more. It tasted really good.

Stuffed cabbage
This dish is similar to tofu skins wrapped around meat. The sauerkraut wraps neatly chopped meat, and when you cut into it, it’s packed with fillings. The sour cream added extra flavor—very nice.

Chicken paprikash with noodles, cucumber salad
The chicken was stewed until very tender, paired with pickled cucumbers (which were prepared in a way that reminded me so much of home—delicious!), and some cooked dumplings. The combination of meat, vegetables, and carbs was very satisfying!

The hotel we stayed at in Budapest with friends this time was truly stunning. The hotel's interior design features different styles of Greek columns—Corinthian, Ionic, and Doric. The ground floor restaurant and the Secret Garden spa are also filled with exquisite designs.

The room we stayed in had green wallpaper and matching bedding, giving off a strong nature vibe. The room is big for friends to have fun, chat and enjoy the night together with some drinks. When you close the curtains, the storage space is cleverly hidden, adding privacy. The 'Do Not Disturb' sign in the room is shaped like a broom, which is very cute! The mini bar is also well stocked with a variety of drinks.

Every night before bed, someone comes to tidy up the room and leave hotel information along with some chocolates—so thoughtful and delightful.

As the sun set, the iconic Parliament building and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge lit up, casting their golden glow over the Danube River. The reflection of the illuminated structures on the water created a mesmerizing scene, making the city feel magical. The contrast between the historic architecture and the shimmering lights made Budapest's nightscape one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, leaving an indelible impression that I’ll cherish for a lifetime.

New York Coffee Budapest is a beautiful place with a rich, historical atmosphere. An experience for all who travel to Budapest should try and achieve. Although we couldn't reserve a table as bookings were full we jumped on the line 15 minutes before opening time at 8am.
This café is famous for a reason—its stunning building and superb architecture make it a must-visit spot.

Garden of Philosophers in Budapest
#myhiddengems in Budapest, Hungary is the Garden of Philosophers. Located on the steep edge of Gellert Hill is this sculpture garden showcasing some of the greatest philosophers/religious figures from history. It is a quiet sanctuary in a big park with stunning views over the city: Castle Hill on Buda side as well the Danube with Pest in the background.
Even though it is just 15 minutes from the Citadel (pne of the favourite sights to visit for tourists), this place is less featured in guidebooks or travel blogs and videos so mostly locals go there to chill or walk dog. It’s a great place to take social media-worthy photos, do a picnic or for just people watching.

The church here is incredibly beautiful and grand. It remains in excellent condition due to constant restoration efforts. Fisherman's Bastion is located on the hill on the Buda side, not far from Buda Castle. It attracts many tourists and offers one of the best views of the Pest side. There are restaurants and bars where you can relax, and in the evenings, you might enjoy live music with the ambiance of the Danube River. It's a must-visit spot when in Budapest.

Budapest is one of the European capitals that isn't too crowded. You can stroll around comfortably without feeling cramped. The city is divided by the Danube River into two parts: Buda and Pest. You can use the local currency or pay with Euros as well. The people are very friendly compared to other countries.
