At the epicenter of jun pottery, Shenhou Ancient Town, Yuzhou, Xuchang City, Henan Province.
This ancient town of Shenhou is home to jun pottery. Shops selling various pottery line the streets along the way to the ancient town. The town is infact, quite small, and lies down a slope. Paved with cobbled stones, the shops are centuries old.
Tea connoisseurs will appreciate the various designs of tea pots and cups. Prices for a mass commercially made small vases can be had for as little as 5 RMB. Fine quality teapot set can cost hundreds to a few thousand yuan. Visitors can even attend a pottery workshop and learn to craft their own.

Exploring the Ancient Mysteries of Yin Xu: Where History and Archaeology Come to Life
#chinatrip #Henan #Yinxu #archeology #china_history #100waysoftravel
As passionate lovers of Chinese history and archaeology, our most anticipated destination was undoubtedly the Yin Xu in Anyang.
Yin Xu, the ancient capital of the late Shang Dynasty, is famous for being the site where the earliest Chinese script, the oracle bone inscriptions, was discovered. It’s also the cradle of Shang Dynasty bronze civilization. The royal tombs at Yin Xu are especially worth a visit.
🎫🎟️The entrance ticket to the Yin Xu site includes admission to the royal tombs, and there’s a free shuttle service to take visitors back and forth.
We explored several key exhibitions:
📌M260 Tomb Exhibition Hall – Located in the southern part of the eastern royal tomb area, this “jia”-shaped tomb is where the famous national treasure, the Simuwu Ding, was unearthed. The tomb also contained 22 human skulls buried together in the tomb’s filling.
📌Chariot and Horse Pit Exhibition Hall – This hall showcases the remains of two chariots and horses, with detailed displays explaining the structure, harnessing techniques, and uses of the ancient chariots.
📌Burial Exhibition Hall – Compared to the human skulls displayed at the China Archaeology Museum, the burial pits here are even more shocking and somber. The sacrificial pits, known as "row burial pits," are neatly arranged, with each group representing a separate sacrificial event. Most pits contained sacrificial human remains, including those buried alive or killed before burial. The sacrifices were mainly prisoners of war, with some being slaves. The sight of the countless bones conveys a chilling reminder of a time when brutality overshadowed civilization.
From Borneo to Anyang: A 3,000-Kilometer Journey to explore 3000 years history of Shang Dynasty
A visit to the Yin Xu New Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient Chinese civilization, particularly the Shang Dynasty.

👍The Tunan Oracle Bones (屯南甲骨)
👍Ya Chang Bull-shaped Zun (亚长牛尊) and the Ya Chang Square Bronze Zun (亚长铜方尊), both of which showcase the exquisite craftsmanship and ceremonial importance of these vessels. The Ya Chang Bronze Yue (亚长铜钺), a type of ceremonial axe, and the Bronze Hand (铜手), likely used in rituals, are also notable for their historical and artistic value.
👍Clay Pig Head (陶猪首), a unique piece that reflects the everyday life and beliefs of the Shang people.
Before You Go:
To better understand the culture of Yin Xu, highly recommend to watch documentaries about Shang dynasty, Ya Chang tomb, Fu Hao Tomb and etc. We spent few months to do homework as we are really interested at Shang Dynasty.

Kai Feng Ancient City Wall: From Least Expected to Most Unforgettable Experience
The Kaifeng City Wall, located in Henan Province, was originally built during the Tang Dynasty and is the second-largest ancient city wall in China, after the Nanjing City Wall. Despite being damaged by wars and floods, the wall has been rebuilt multiple times, with five layers of ancient walls buried beneath the current structure.
The west gate of the ancient city, known as "Daliang Gate," was first constructed in 781 AD during the Tang Dynasty and was later called Changhe Gate during the Northern Song Dynasty. These historical layers and cultural richness give Kaifeng a deep sense of history and charm.
🚨🚨🚨
This guide is perfect for history enthusiasts and hikers. The Kaifeng City Wall is 14.4 kilometers long, but only the western section from Daliang Gate to Anyuan Gate is open.
✅From Daliang Gate to Anyuan Gate, it's about a 5-kilometer walk, taking roughly 2 hours. For those who prefer not to walk, shared bikes can be rented on the wall by scanning a QR code.
✅Upon entering from Daliang Gate, you can watch a documentary called "Ancient Horse Path," which uses virtual reality to showcase the ancient ruins.
✅After the documentary, exit to the left to ascend the city gate. Every half hour, there's a 720-degree immersive show, "Micro Dream of Daliang Gate," which covers Kaifeng's history from the Xia Dynasty to the Northern Song Dynasty's peak and beyond.
✅As you walk north along the wall (the south side isn't open yet), signs detail Kaifeng's history in chronological order. History enthusiasts will find familiar figures and events, along with real historical remains like tamped earth layers and ballistic ruins.

White Horse Temple, founded in 68 AD during the Eastern Han Dynasty, is known as the "cradle of Chinese Buddhism." It holds immense historical significance as the first Buddhist temple established in China.

I have a deep love for Chinese history, and my stop in Zhengzhou is solely to take my time appreciating the artifacts inside. The Henan Museum is said to have the second-largest collection of cultural relics in China, only after the Palace Museum. With the vast number of artifacts and their exquisite craftsmanship, it’s definitely worth a visit to explore and learn.
The "Nine Treasures of the Henan Museum" are the most iconic and valuable artifacts in the museum’s collection. Each of these treasures represents a significant aspect of Chinese history and culture, showcasing the rich heritage of Henan Province. Here’s a glimpse of these nine treasures:
1. **Lotus and Crane Square Pot (莲鹤方壶)** - A bronze wine vessel from the Western Zhou Dynasty, known for its intricate design and craftsmanship.
2. **Warring States Chime Bells (战国编钟)** - A set of bronze chime bells used in ancient ceremonial music, showcasing advanced metallurgical techniques.

Yinxu Museum
Yinxu Museum is a relatively new museum in Anyang. It houses a portion of the thousands year old ancient oracle bones that Anyang is famous for. The museum showcases photographs and models of early excavations, bronze wares crafted from China's Shang dynasty, short animations of the evolution of the oracle bone inscriptions to the present Mandarin characters and many more exhibits. The entrance fee is a rather hefty 80 RMB. If you understand the Chinese language, I recommend forking out extra for a museum group tour or at the minimum, renting an audio guide. Oracle bone inscription has a long and fascinating history that is worth immersing oneself in for a couple of hours.
Nearby, within walking distance, some tombs of significance and the Yinxu ruins can be explored.
Getting There - From the high speed railway station Anyang Dong Zhan (安阳东站),walk 500meters and wait at the street for bus 11 to go to Yinxu museum. The ride takes about 50mins. If you don't wish to wait, call for a cab using the Didi(滴滴车) app. Outside the train station, there will be hustlers getting you to take their cab but you should negotiate the fare. If you understand the Chinese language, I recommend forking out extra for a museum guide or at least rent an audio guide equipment. If you understand the Chinese language, I recommend forking out extra for a museum guide or at least rent an audio guide equipment.

Traveling to Pao Bunjin (Kaifeng)
🧧 Thai people who like Chinese movies would probably know Judge Bao of Kaifeng Court, and certainly, many would want to see the actual historical site. The Judge Bao Memorial is one such place that is worth visiting at least once.
🌟 If you want to delve deeply into history, the ticket area offers the option to walk with a guide who will narrate the history of each site. However, this time we chose to go without a guide because we stopped to take photos all along the way, as the views are very beautiful.
🌟 We visited during December, which was very cold, with snow as well. I would recommend that those planning to visit choose a time when it's not too cold, as there is a lot of walking to do.
🌟 Overall, I think Kaifeng is worth visiting at least once because it's beautiful and full of interesting stories. Plus, the place is easy to navigate, visually clean, and fun. 😚
🧡 You should go 🧡
Luoyang Old Street at Sunset
#tripblazers #luoyang #henan
Luoyang old street really comes to life at sunset. Not only does the orange and red sky cast a beautiful light on the buildings and cobbled streets, but when it gets a little darker, and the store lights come on, the whole place becomes teeming with people ready for a bite to eat. There are loads of places to stop for a snack on the way, with food stalls lining almost every corner.
Drum tower vs Bell tower in Luoyang
#tripblazers #luoyang #henan
In Luoyang old town, you can really get a sense of the ancient capital from the road that houses both the Impressive Drum tower, and the smaller Bell Tower. Most people take the time to visit the drum tower for its high walls and impressive views at night, but we loved also visiting the more modest but intricately decorated bell tower just a little way along the road. The view of the cobbled streets through its arch is beautiful and gives you a real sense of the history.

If you’re looking for real aincent history, and a beautiful museum to house it in, look no further than the Erlitou archeological site in Henan. Discovered in 1959, the relics of this site date back to the Bronze Age, 3500 years ago. What most surprised us about this beautiful museum dedicated to the site was the intricate craftsmanship of some of the items displayed including jade masks and carved wine jugs. Absolutely worth a visit if you are history buffs like us!
The Oldest Buddhist Temple in China
#tripblazers #henan #luoyang
As part of our history tour of Henan, we visited the oldest recorded Buddhist temple in China. The white horse temple has been at the epicentre of Chinese history since the year 68AD when it was established by Emperor Ming in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Here, Buddhism was first established in the country, with the temple being built to honour the two Indian monks and their white horses that brought the religion to China (hence the name). The gardens and buildings are beautiful, and if you are lucky enough to visit during April, you will see hundreds of blossoming Chinese peonies.
The international temples of Luoyang
#tripblazers #luoyang #henan
You might think that you’ve stepped into a hidden part of south east Asia when visiting the White Horse Temple, but actually what you are visiting is one half of a historic temple and park dedicated to worship (and photos) for hundreds of years! The India, Thailand and Myanmar temples were all built and donated on this site by their respective countries as part of a display of solidarity and friendship with the Chinese people. Today they are a great place to visit in the sunshine for peace and some beautiful photos.
Spend a day in the Song Dynasty at Qingming
#newyearadventure #tripblazers #henan
I loved spending the day at Qingming park in Kaifeng! There were loads of yummy snacks to eat and the best part were the shows. Thought the park all through the day are small and large cultural shows aimed at showcasing the culture and traditions of the Song Dynasty in this replica town.
The town was modelled after the famous painting ‘On the River during Qing Ming festival’ and you really feel like you’ve stepped right into the painting!
Even an earthquake couldn’t stop this Pagoda
#newyearadventure #tripblazers #henan
Would you believe that this pagoda in Yanling, Henan is over 1000 years old? Towering over the crowded city, it has a history dating back to the Sui Dynasty in 604AD, that is until it was damaged by an earthquake almost 500 years ago and rebuilt again in its current spot in 1549.
A little detail I loved about this hidden gem were the carvings of Buddha around the base.
Peace in the countryside of Henan

A hidden gem in my partner’s hometown is the Buddhist Temple in Yanling, Henan. During spring festival, the temple is heaving with visitors coming to pay their respects and bring in good luck for the new year.
We however visited during the summer months, where it was open on a one-off. The female monks welcomed us in for a tour to see the buildings spanning a size greater than Jing’an temple in Shanghai!
If you’re in the area, it is absolutely worth a visit! If you are looking to travel there, it is called the Amitabha Temple on Google maps and is in Zhangqiao town.
