The first castle with electricity
Romania’s spectacular Peles Castle has become well known for being the first castle in the world to have electricity installed in it, but visitors will soon discover it has far more to offer than just that.
Despite being a ‘new’ castle, in fact the newest in Europe this Royal residence includes beautiful and opulent architecture, richly decorated in a neo-renaissance style with stunning garden La overlooking the surrounding mountains which are often snowcapped throughout the winter #romania #castle #voyagevibes
Beautiful Brasov
The Jewell of Transylvania, Brasov may not been high up on most people’s list for European city breaks but its lack of fame may actually be a good thing leaving visitors free to explore without the usual crowd of tourists.
The city is a perfectly preserved piece of history representing a lost grandeur that was once commonplace in Romania. Highlights in the city include the historic centre and the world’s narrowest street #romania #transylvania #voyagevibes
Dracula’s castle
A visit to Transylvania would not be complete without a visit to the iconic Castle Bran just outside Brasov. The medieval fortress set on a hilltop surrounded by beautiful countryside was made famous by Bram Stoker’s horror novel based on the actual and infamous leader of the region Vlad the impaler.
However despite the myth the castle itself is never mentioned in the story and the castle was not even set foot in by the tyrannical leader.
The unexpected part of this is the fact that once you enter the castle you are entering what seems like a family home which has been perfect preserved form its days as a royal residence. #voyagevibes #romania #castle #dracula

Bucharest top attractions
If it happens to visit the Balkans and more specific Romania, it's very probably to pass by Bucharest. The capital is not only the biggest city but it was build really massive and megalomaniac. It's impossible not to see the second biggest building in the world, aka the Parliament. Next to it is the biggest orthodox church on the Balkans. Following the huge boulevards you can visit also the singing fountains, the house of the former communist leader, the open air ethnographic museum and many others. Just explore!

Megalomaniac Bucharest
When you visit Bucharest for first time, it's impossible to do not notice the huge dimensions of all the buildings, boulevards, public spaces, etc. Of course on the top is the People's palace, the second bigest building in the world, than the massive church next to it, the musical fountain and literally everything. If you want to go to the root of this "policy" you can visit the residence of the former communist leader, Nicolae Ceausescu and take a look at the golden bathroom or the golden decorated swimiming pool.

Astra Museum Of Traditional Folk Civilisation 🗺️
#folkactivities
I just had the most incredible experience visiting the ASTRA Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization in Sibiu, Romania! 🌍 If you’re into history, culture, or just enjoy being outdoors, this place is a must-see. The museum is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe, and it’s like stepping back in time to explore Romania’s rural past.
The entrance fee was around 25 RON (€5), which is a steal considering how much there is to see. The museum covers over 200 hectares, so be prepared to do a lot of walking. 🚶♂️ You’ll find traditional wooden houses, watermills, and even churches, all preserved to showcase different regions and periods of Romanian history. Each exhibit is so detailed, I felt like I was walking through a real village. The interactive displays and live demonstrations, like blacksmithing and weaving, really bring the past to life.
What’s great is that the museum is located in the Dumbrava Sibiului Natural Park, so the scenery is just as beautiful as the exhibits. 🌳 I spent a good few hours wandering around, and it’s easy to lose track of time here. If you’re visiting with kids, they’ll love the boat rides on the lake in the middle of the park.
Nearby, you can also visit Sibiu’s historic city center, which is just a short drive away. After spending the day at the museum, I’d recommend heading back into town for a coffee in one of the cozy cafes in Piața Mare.
Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a peaceful day out in nature, ASTRA Museum is definitely worth the visit. I can’t recommend it enough! 👍

The most famous church in Romania 🗺️

Visiting the Voronet Monastery in Romania was like stepping into a fairytale 🏰! Nestled in the picturesque village of Voronet, just a few kilometers from Gura Humorului, this monastery is famous for its stunning "Voronet blue" frescoes 🎨. The entrance fee was around 10 RON, which is quite affordable for the experience. As soon as I entered, the vibrant colors and detailed biblical scenes painted on the exterior walls left me speechless. The craftsmanship from the 15th century is still so vivid, it's no wonder this place is known as the "Sistine Chapel of the East." 🌟
The interior is just as awe-inspiring, with beautiful iconography that tells various religious stories. Despite being a popular tourist spot, the monastery maintains a serene and spiritual atmosphere, perfect for quiet contemplation 🙏. After exploring the monastery, I took a stroll through the surrounding village, which is incredibly charming with its traditional Romanian houses and rolling green hills 🌳. There are also nearby attractions like the Humor Monastery and the beautiful Bucovina landscape, perfect for nature lovers. If you’re visiting Romania, Voronet Monastery is an absolute must-see!

The legend of Dracula
#myhiddengems
Popular associated with stories of vampires and warevolves. This historical region is a medival gem with lots to offer beyond folklore. The appearance of it can make it look like It does actually look like a place from those vampire stories with brightly colored houses, magnificent palaces, and dramatic layers of mountains, hills, and forests in the distance.
Personally, i've become a fan of several eastern European destinations owing to their affordability and less tourists compared to traditional destinations in Europe. It rewards you with charming villages, lush forests, and historic castles and landmarks.
If you chose to travel during office season, things become even more affordable. As was the unplanned case with me during February. But i came prepared for winter. In general I found travel and transport to be quite cheap in Romania and effective. Romanians are incredibly nice and friendly. I could never speak to them but I did my best and the locals were always helpful.
During the 10 days of stay I was lucky to befriend some fellow backpackers and together we touched some wonderful places in Transylvania. Some very memorable spots like alba lulia, Sibiu, brasov, sinia and vras castle. All in all it made for a wonderful first trip to Transylvania.

Sibiu beautiful town in a Romania 🇷🇴 😍
#europetrip
Travel around the world slowly | Tike this eye-filled mediaeval town in London the year before last.
National Geographic is full of curiosity about the "city of thousands of eyes" Sibiu.
This year, I took the international train from Budapest to Sibiu, Romania, and saw the mediaeval ancient city designed and built by the Germans with my own eyes.
There are 200 households in the ancient city, and the windows of each house are like "Eye 99" standing on the roof of the bell tower in the main square of the city overlooking the whole city.
It seems that there are more than a thousand pairs of eyes looking at you, which is more interesting.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Lainici Monastery
The Orthodox monastery lies within the Defileul Jiului National Park. It was funded by Wallachian hospodar Jan Caradja. It was built in 1817 on the foundations of an older monastery, dated to the 14th century. One can see antique frescoes from
1860 and an iconostat composed of icons in the Byzantine style.
In July 2006, a copy of the miraculous icon from Dohiariu Monastery from Mount Athos was transferred to the monastery. It was made especially for the Lainici monastery and is the fifth copy made since the beginning of the 20th century around the world. Moreover, in 2009, the relics of St. Irodiona Ionescu, missing for 109 years.
From the end of the 20th century, a second, richly decorated church stands in the monastery. It consists of two parts, which symbolize two stages in the history of the church - the so-called Church in the catacombs and the modern church. The same division reflects a series of icons and frescoes.
