Erhai Lake, Dali, Yunnan- a chilled person’s paradise!!!
I travelled to Dali in early March - the weather is lovely during 11am-4pm (temperature will be past 20c, sunshine and a nice breeze!) and outside of those times it can get quite cold and a jacket is definitely needed.
I rented a bike for roughly RMB40 (USD6?) per day, the ballon was RMB25 and flowers also RMB25, I got the flowers from a random store near my hostel- I only got the ballon and flowers as it was really pretty but it was definitely an “aesthetic purchase.”
The bike ride was so good that I ended up doing it on 2 days as the lake is roughly 40km and since it was such a leisure ride for me I took it pretty easy. I stopped half way through at a random coffee shop on both days and hearing the sound of the lake was so peaceful whilst enjoying a piece of cake plus coffee. It’s a bit pricey for the area -coffee was around RMB50 but I’d say totally worth it for the view!#dali #dali #yunnan #erhai #erhailake #coffee #coffee
The Real Life Scene Black Myth Wukong in Dali
#travellerwonderland
The Chongsheng Temple and Three Pagodas are among the most iconic landmarks in Dali, Yunnan Province.
Chongsheng Temple was once a major Buddhist temple complex in Dali, originally built during the Tang Dynasty. Although much of it was destroyed, it has been reconstructed and remains an important cultural and religious site.
The Three Pagodas, located just in front of the temple, are a striking trio of ancient towers. The central one, known as Qianxun Pagoda, dates back over 1,000 years, to the Tang Dynasty. The other two, built slightly later, flank the main pagoda, creating a stunning and symmetrical scene. These pagodas are a symbol of Dali and stand as a testament to the area's rich history.
Surrounded by beautiful landscapes with the Cangshan Mountains behind and Erhai Lake in front, the site is a must-visit for anyone exploring Dali! These ancient structures, towering over the landscape, inspired some of the game’s most striking scenes, The Black Myth Wukong.

The Ancient City of Dali is well preserved and deserves at least a half day to explore it and truly enjoy what it has to offer.
By day, stroll around to shop for some local products such as coffee or mushrooms. Vibrant and bustling at night, try some local specialties in the numerous restaurants, such as a mushroom hotpot. Trust me, it won't disappoint.
If you have a few days in the area, don't miss the Three pagodas and a tour of Erhai lake, stop by a Bai village to discover and buy local indigo products.

Dali Adventures: From Majestic Mountains to Serene Lakes
#chinatrip #yunnan #dali
Dali is a place that has always captivated my imagination. This trip, I was especially excited about taking the cable car up to Cangshan Mountain to experience its breathtaking scenery.
Early in the morning, I set off from the ancient city of Dali by bus. After a short ride, I arrived at the starting point of the Cangshan cable car. As the cable car ascended, I gradually left the ground behind and the view opened up before me. The majestic beauty of Cangshan unfolded, with its layers of peaks resembling a series of magnificent paintings that left me feeling utterly enchanted.
Reaching the summit, the air was exceptionally fresh. Eager to explore, I wandered along the mountain trails. Along the way, I encountered many rare plants and animals, immersing myself in the wonders of nature. Standing high above and looking down at the Dali Basin, the vast expanse of rural landscape seemed to whisper the area’s long history and rich culture.
In the afternoon, I rented a bicycle and rode to the Longkan Wharf Viewing Platform. The ride was invigorating, with the gentle breeze and stunning views of Erhai Lake accompanying me. Upon arriving at the platform, I was greeted with a panoramic view of the lake, its shimmering waters reflecting the sky. The tranquil beauty of the area provided a perfect end to an eventful day.
This trip to Dali not only allowed me to appreciate the magnificent scenery of Cangshan but also gave me a profound sense of Dali’s unique local culture. Whether it was the grand vistas from the mountain or the serene landscapes by the lake, everything left an indelible mark on my memory. I look forward to my next trip to Yunnan, to continue exploring this magical land.
Erhai, Dali's best place to rejuvenate
A visit to Dali must always add a day to visit Erhai.
A joyride with an electric scooter from Dali Ancient City (cost 60Y) to Erhai's nearest lake side point. Park the scooter, either walk or rent a bike to get around the lake. Have a coffee by the lake, see what people do, or simply enjoy the clouds come and go. Only Erhai takes you away from work and gives you back the quality of life.
I took an electric scooter from Dali Ancient City to Erhai, passing through the small alleys of Erhai village. it's very beautiful way to explore Erhai before getting near to the entrance to Erhai lake.
you can either cycle or walk or take an electric scooter in Erhai road.
many cafe shops and restaurants and hotels. highlights of Erhai is definitely the lake and the fun cycling or scooting. must come and see

A day in Dali City
A trip to Dali City could not be complete without a visit to Dali Ancient City and the Three Pagodas of Chong Sheng Temple.
First we headed into the Ancient City of Dali. A fantastic place to walk through with a wide variety of interesting shops. You can buy everything from tea, local art, clothing, and food. I tried some small spicy scorpions which were nice and crunchy.
After leaving the old city you can take a walk for around 2km straight to the Three Pagodas. A nice easy walk with plenty of small local restaurants along the way.
The Three Pagodas look remarkably beautiful. The area is great to walk around, it take around an hour to go around. It is very quiet which makes for a perfect setting to view the Pagodas.

A beautiful windy lake
If you are traveling in Yunnan Erhai is a must see place to visit. A huge beautiful lake with a mountain backdrop.
We stayed at a hotel overlooking the lake with a small outdoor pool to relax in. Relaxing by the pool of an evening overlooking the lake is fantastic. It really gives you chance to enjoy the scenery and take a break.
There are many ways to enjoy seeing the lake from bike rides, road trips, and lakes cruises. You can even get a great view of the lake from the old towns or coffee shops that surround it.
Regardless of how you decide to enjoy your time here, you will be sure to appreciate it. #yunnan #dali #erhailake #yunnantravel

There are so many hidden gems we wouldn’t have found if we didn’t rent a car! Our local driver stopped at many places that weren’t full of tourists, took us to the picture perfect flower fields, scenic lake spots, and the villages where locals still share so much of the Bai culture.
We also wanted to bring back some souvenirs, tie dye, Dali silver, tea etc. He was able to help us find more authentic places to buy and bring back our favorites!
You have the car for 9 hours, to enjoy the drive through the mountains, forest and fresh air. We covered so much, and we’re able to see so much than we bargained for! If you’d like to add the driver his wechat ID is: ab51668899999

This was a lovely walk through the old town where we found many stores and markets run by locals who shared their art, handmade products and delicious snacks and drinks with us. You can walk through the rice fields for a beautiful photo with the mountain in the back drop. You can also find many local ladies who will approach you to braid your hair with feathers or colorful strings! Dali!
There is an international airport at Dali with flights to most major cities in China. The flights into Dali can be quite expensive and it could be cheaper to fly into Kunming and get a train/taxi to Dali. Once you’re in Dali it’s pretty much split into two areas (the lake area) and the old town. It takes about 30 minutes to get between the 2 places. The old town is the biggest attraction in Dali so I would recommend staying there as you can ding fairly cheap and authentic guesthouses.#dali #yunnan #travel #china
The Three Pagodas of Dali
The three pagodas are located within the big complex of Chongsheng Temple, in Dali China. The three pagodas are separated from the rest of the temple buildings by a building that forms a bridge over a road that passes through the complex.
The pagodas form a triangle, where the main square pagoda was built first about 1800 years ago, and the other two smaller circular pagodas were built 100 years later, with a different style. The pagodas are quite incredible architecturally. The other temple buildings are regular, classical but modern Buddhist temples. The Congshan mountain forms a great background. A vegetarian buffet is served for lunch, for about 20RMB.

Erhai lake
One of the must visit places in Dali is Erhai lake. The best way to enjoy the lake is taking a bike ride along the lake. There are many bikes, you pay the fee and the deposit to locals and you have a bike for three hours. There are coffee shops nearby for taking a rest and enjoying the view but we preferred just to sit by the lake on the small rocks to have mor natural view.
