Conquering Mount Kinabalu!
Climbing Mount Kinabalu was a test of both physical and mental strength that I will never forget. From the very beginning, the odds seemed stacked against me. The flu had left me feeling weak and fatigued, and as I ascended higher, the symptoms worsened. AMS with its nausea and dizziness, added another layer of difficulty. Not being the fittest person in the group, I often lagged behind, struggling to keep up with my buddies. The steep and rocky terrain of the mountain was relentless, demanding endurance and determination I didnt know I possessed. Every step was a struggle, but I was determined to push through. Despite the hardships, the breathtaking views and the camaraderie with the fellow buddies kept me going. The sunrise from the summit was a reward beyond words, and the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. My climb up Mount Kinabalu was far from easy. However, it taught me that determination and sheer willpower can overcome even the most challenging cicumstances. It was an experience that tested my limits and left me with a profound sense of achievement and appreciation for the beauty of the natural world.

⛰️ Mount Kinabalu Adventures: Part 2
#wecreate
🚶♀️Mt Kinabalu is one of the highest mountains in South East Asia. It is a 2D1N hike which requires high stamina and proper training before you attempt to conquer the mountain.
🌄 Day 2 of my climb started at 2am, with a light breakfast consisting of toast & eggs. The entire hike up was in the dark, accompanied by your torchlight.
If you turn around and look back, you will get an awesome view of A Sky Full of Stars (literally) and the far away glow of city lights.
03:00 - Started the 2nd half from Laban Rata Camp (KM6.0)
05:00 - Reached Sayat-sayat checkpoint (KM7.0).
08:00 - Low's Peak! (Summit 4095M)
Summit was beautiful and the views were breathtaking! My only regret is not being well equipped with proper attire to withstand the strong winds and cold temperature. 🥶
💡 For those who are afraid of heights, it's better to get yourself mentally prepared before you attempt this part of the hike. Also, keep in mind that it is a relatively safe hike, but there is only a single white rope to guide you up the rocky surfaces with no extra safety harness.
Be prepared to be challenged mentally and physically. Also, you will need a thick jacket, and perhaps a pair of Kampung Adidas 😆

⛰️ Mount Kinabalu Adventures: Part 1
Mt Kinabalu is one of the highest mountains in South East Asia. It’s part of the Bornean Crocker Range, and looms over the surrounding Sabah jungle.
It is a do-able 2D1N hike, but I would definitely encourage to practice stamina exercise and be physically fit before the attempt.
Here's a recap of my hike on Day 1.
09:30 - Started the hike at Timpohon Gate
13:30-14:00 - Stopped at KM4.0 Layang-Layang station for a quick lunch break
15:10 - Reached KM5.0
17:00 - Arrived at Panalaban (3272.7m elevation)
Just in time for dinner!
The route on the first day transitioned from beautiful forest jungles to desert terrain.
I was slightly taken aback when it started raining at KM2.0, though the forecast said the weather would be good. You would need good Waterproof shoes and an extra pair of socks, because the steps turn into mini slippery waterfalls when it rains. KM5.0 to 6.0 was by far the toughest to hike, with the muddy desert terrain.
Be prepared to be challenged mentally and physically. Also, you will need a thick jacket, and perhaps a pair of Kampung Adidas 😆

The joyful Desa Dairy Farm!
When my family and I visit Mount Kinabalu, we always stop by at Desa Dairy farm for its breathtaking view as we are in New Zealand. Besides, its main attraction of its cow farm, we always aim for its gelato milky ice cream and purchase its fresh milk.
It's always fun and joyful moment with families not only when we have cool and fresh air over the mountain here. The scenery is breathtaking with a greenery environment making us in love with such amazing nature.

Journey To The Peak Of North Borneo
DH.CMK.21.1
The commonly used climbing track is through the Timpohon Gate. The base camp for climbing Mount Kinabalu is located in Panalaban, also known as Laban Rata, which is located at an altitude of 3273 meters above sea level.
Timpohon Gate is the final hurdle before the proper summit trail begins for climbers to seize Mount Kinabalu peak and the distance from Timpohon Gate to the summit (Low's Peak) is about 8.72 kilometers.
Within the first 1 kilometers radius from Timpohon Gate, there is an average waterfall named Carson's Fall with a shoal of fish in the river.

With an elevation of 13,435 feet @ 4,095 meters, Mount Kinabalu is the third highest peak of an island on Earth.
It is also a North Borneo (now Sabah) iconic landmark and took about 3 to 4 hours hike to reach the summit from Panalaban Resthouse (depending on the hikers movement)
With the stunning and breathtaking view on top of the mountain, it was an amazing experience to climb.
If you're a hikers lover, this is one of the places in Sabah a 'must go' place. See you at the top.

A Hike To Remember DH.CMK.21.1
Getting There - It's about a 5-6 hour hike from Timpohon gate. It depends on your movement. If you like sightseeing, well you probably will reach Laban Rata in 6 hours. Usually people will start hiking from Timpohon Gate at 9am and reach here around 2-4pm.
Attractions - There's not much here, just the breathtaking view of the amazing sunset, the view of Mount Kinabalu, view of the Crocker Range and many other amazing views.
Hotels - It's a dorm style. There's no need for a fan, instead you'll need a heater. The water is freezing cold. Sometimes the water heater doesn't work but if you're lucky you can warm yourself.
Food & Restaurants - The food is Western and Asian. It has many choices and it's mouth-watering.
Shopping - For sure there are no shops here. Only a small stall where you can buy souvenirs.

Kota Belud is now very famous as a beautiful and safe "camping" location in Sabah.
We found Nahandang Homestay & Campsite on instagram. At first, we hesitated to camp because we will be running the marathon and have no time to enjoy but when we arrived, the view is sooooo worth all the hassle.
The mount Kinabalu or known as Akinabalu to the local Sabahans stood majestically and we all were in awe admiring its beauty from a distance.
The river is clear as crystal and Rocks that were spread out naturally as a result of mud floods a few years ago are so beautifully spread makes the view breathtaking.
A basic accommodation, you can sleep in a tent or in a hut - if in a hut a mattress is spread out and given more pillows and blankets. Cozy and comfortable.
If you are in Kota Kinabalu and would like to go on a camping trip, do visit Nahandang Homestay. You will not be disappointed, I promise❣️
