A scenic spot along the Aso Panorama Line: Yonezuka
#CarTrip
One of the joys of traveling in Aso is driving 🛣️
Aso Panorama Line has many view spots ♪
On the way back from Kusasenri, where I had to give up due to a huge traffic jam, I saw Yonezuka!
A wonderful view that blew away all my sadness of not being able to go to Kusasenri.
The green Yonezuka and the surrounding pampas grass plains were like something out of a movie.
If you go to Kumamoto, be sure to rent a car and go for a drive 🚗

A stylish hot spring inn with a view of Mt. Aso! Rooms with open-air baths, free ice cream, drinks, and alcohol
#HotSpringTrip
I stayed at Kokoro no Mama on my trip to Aso. All rooms have a view of Mt. Aso. The maisonette room I stayed in had two hot springs, an indoor bath and an open-air bath. You can see Mt. Aso from the window on the second floor, and you can enjoy the sunrise and the magnificent view of Mt. Aso from the moment you wake up in the morning. The observation deck has a foot bath in the summer, and you can see Mt. Aso from there. Another nice thing is the drink bar in the lobby. In addition to coffee, tea, and juice, they also have alcohol (up to one drink per person) and ice cream, which is all free 🆓 (15:00 to 20:00, 8:00 to 10:00). Ice cream after the hot spring is the best. It is close to tourist spots such as Mt. Aso and Kusasenri, so if you go to Aso, please try staying there ♪ Recommended spot 📍 Kokoro no Mama Address: 5304-1 Kawakage, Minamiaso-mura, Aso-gun, Kumamoto Prefecture 869-1411 Cost: 44,000 yen per night for two people. Recommended points: Rooms with open-air baths, ice cream, drink bar, Mikimoto amenities, ReFa showers ⚠ Note: The drink bar is only available for a limited time, and only for overnight stays, so we recommend bringing your own food or eating outside. There are no restaurants within walking distance.

Aso: Early Morning Mist
We stayed overnight at the Aso Plateau and left the hotel at 5 AM to head to Kusasenrigahama.
As the darkness gradually gave way to light, the sight of the mist slowly drifting away was incredibly beautiful.
When the sun illuminated the mist, the soft light filling the surroundings created such a magnificent scene that it felt almost wasteful to press the camera shutter.
Walking into the mist felt like stepping into the clouds, which was also quite fascinating.
▶︎Note
We accessed Kusasenrigahama via the route heading north from the Minami Aso Panorama Line.
There were many wild animals like raccoons and deer, so please be very careful when driving!
A Day in Aso
Mount Aso in Kumamoto is an active volcano. When the alert level is below level 2, you can get up close to the Nakadake Crater to admire the volcano. If a level 2 alert is issued, you can only view the billowing smoke from a distance at Kusasenri.
However, the scenery at Kusasenri is magnificent and is considered the most beautiful area on Mount Aso. Each season offers different stunning views, making a visit to Kusasenri worthwhile even if you can't reach the crater. Photography enthusiasts can capture many great shots, and visitors can enjoy leisurely horseback riding or local delicacies such as Akaushi beef and Aso fresh milk. Additionally, there is a volcano museum to explore.
For transportation, take the JR train from Kumamoto Station to Aso Station, which takes about an hour and twenty minutes. The most famous sightseeing train is the Aso Boy, a black train featuring the mascot dog Kuro, whose images are found throughout the train. The train also has a children's play area, a library, and a café, making it popular with families. After arriving at Aso Station, transfer to a bus to reach the Aso Mountain Plaza, which is the Kusasenri area. If conditions allow for visiting the crater, take a shuttle bus to the Nakadake Crater.
After enjoying Kusasenri, before taking the JR back to Kumamoto, you can visit Aso Shrine by taking a train to Miyaji Station and then walking to the Aso Monzenmachi shopping street. This area is famous for its clear springs, and you can find many drinkable water sources while strolling and exploring the street, adding to the fun.

The Charm of Aso
Aso City is a nature-rich place surrounded by majestic mountains and vast grasslands. The scenery of Mount Aso is particularly breathtaking, and on clear days, its beauty is truly refreshing. [Fukuoka] Yufuin, Kumamoto, Aso, Miyazaki travel review: Special restaurants, timetable and scenery
Review of Fukuoka Yufuin Kumamoto Aso Miyazaki trip in November 2023🥰
Minister Kumamon finally went to his hometown of Kyushu in mid-November. He visited many cities in one go, including Fukuoka, Yufuin, Kumamoto, Aso, and Miyazaki. This time he brought four children, namely Sansha and Miyazaki. Lemon boy and Shimei, a total of 6 days.
On the first day, I took an early morning flight from Hong Kong and went straight to Fukuoka. I took the bus to Hakata Station to exchange for a JR Pass and enjoyed a soba lunch. It turned out to include rice, and I was so full that I couldn’t finish it. 🤣The first lunch in Japan was hilariously finished like this😂
After strolling around the station for about half an hour, we are heading to our first and most important destination: Yufuin! Breakdown next time 😎

Kusasenri-ga-hama is a grassland with a diameter of about 1 km that spreads on the northern foot of Mt. Eboshi, one of the five peaks of Aso. There is a large pond in the center of the grassland, which is the remains of a crater, and the idyllic scenery of grazing horses leisurely grazing is a representative view of Aso. There is also a volcano museum and an observation deck nearby.

[Aso] I found my favorite horse meat! Asahi-ya
Asahi-ya is a restaurant I visited on my trip to Aso.
They serve horse meat sashimi, a specialty of Aso, at reasonable prices.
Not only do they have four types of horse meat sashimi - lean, lean meat top, special selection, and finest - you can also buy various parts such as mane and yukhoe!
The taste is also guaranteed!!! Even though it is lean meat, it is as delicious as the special selection at other stores, and the finest meat was so soft and high quality that the fat melted with body heat when I defrosted it a little and cut it😆
Per 100g (tax included)
Lean meat 1,026 yen
Lean meat top 1,242 yen
Special selection 1,620 yen
Fine 1,944 yen

Five-star experience under Aso Volcano 🪭 Aso Villa Park Hotel
Aso Noji Villa Park Hotel
ホテルAsoji
It is said to be a 5-star hotel
This is the free time for the evening of this trip
The only place with nowhere to go shopping outside
It takes 15 minutes to walk to the convenience store
When you enter the hotel, there are several buildings inside.
We live in a very inner location
Eating and bathing in hot springs are relatively close to the lobby.
If you need any supplies for your stay, they are all available next to the lobby.
Disposable toiletries and yukata are available
There is a gift shop in the hotel where you can browse
It’s already a good place for us to spend time
You can buy a lot of European ducks
The room is for 2 people plus a Japanese-style floor bed
I lost the bed, so I slept on the floor
It’s quite comfortable~
The food for dinner and breakfast is all-you-can-eat buffet
You can really eat a lot more at this restaurant today than at the one yesterday
There are even foods that you want to eat but can’t, which is a pity.
But this happens
It must be because I ate curry rice at the all-you-can-eat restaurant
(But it’s really delicious
ps. You can also drink all-you-can-eat beer here
For those who feel that a small drink is too polite, you can have a few more drinks.
