😍This is a hostel in China - Shantou. The building outlook like Paris. Inside also very Coco Chanel feel using black and white design. I’ve always thought Chaoshan was a city and only learned that it’s a region composed of 3 main cities when planning to explore it. The 3 are namely Jieyang 揭阳, Shantou 汕头and Chaozhou 潮州。 Definitely a foodie’s paradise. It’s cheap, varied and delicious. It has something for everyone - fresh seafood being a coastal region, excellent meat - think Chaoshan beef hotpots and tasty fresh veggies. A lot of focus on the produce quality. I split my trip between Chaozhou and Shantou. If you are short on time, I’d advise to only go to Shantou. If you have time, do both. Go to Chaozhou mostly for food, history, tradition architecture and cute alleyways. Go to Shantou for history and culture as well but with more youth energy, trendy cafes, food fusions and it just has more to do. Also consider Nan’ao island which is close to Shantou. I flew from Shanghai to the Chaoshan regional airport which is close to Jieyang. Took didis to travel between Chaozhou and Shantou - Driving is the most convenient to move between the 3. Then took a public bus to go to Nan’ao. Photos above are a mix of Shantou and Chaozhou. I found a very vintage style hostel in Shantou and there is really nice and cheap. Just cost RMB210 per night I can took a lot of pictures there in day time. Nan’ao Island is off the coast of Shantou, a city in the eastern Guangdong province of China. It is linked to the mainland via an impressive bridge. It is a small island of over 100 sqkm, and is surrounded by blue waters. The island has a couple of good beaches, including Qing’ao Bay. The island has much greenery and a number of attractions such as lighthouses and historical sites. There are a good number of restaurants serving local Teochew delicacy which is delicious. However, I have been to better island destinations such as Phuket and Bali, and think Nan’ao is pretty overrated, especially when it has been compared with Hawaii. I was impressed by the long bridge linking it to the mainland, but think the attractions are not overly interesting in my opinion. I have been to better beaches as well. #guangdong #shantou #nanao

Drink more than 1 bbt in one day🥲 you guys should also visit 南澳岛 there a beach there with a beautiful view. But remember to book a whole car for the whole day because it’s hard to get a car to go back. Also try out their fruits it’s to sweet and delicious and it’s worth the price.

Shantou is a beautiful city, near Gunagzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Hongkong and Macau. This city is heaven for food lover!. The food in Chaoshan is the best in the world. The only thing that is better is my wife who is from Shantou. my recommendation is to come to Chaoshan, eat lots of food and before the yummy food makes you too fat marry a Chaoshan girl and make lots of babies to keep her parents happy. Shantou is a port side city in the province of Guangdong. Being one of the many treaty ports opened during the Qing dynasty, it was a center of international trading. As such, the area now houses signs of this historic presence. The historic part of Shantou is not as touristy as one might expect; many of the historic buildings in the center are lightly restored, but nothing is really remade to look fake and overly gentrified. In fact, many of them lie abandoned and in ruins. For me, I find this adds character to the overall area, as there's a sense of authenticity among these buildings that tell stories of their past. There's a small park in the area, which serves as the main focal point of the area. You can't leave the Old town without venturing a bit further to sample the famous Shantou beef balls. Many of the restaurants make them on site and you'll see them beating the beef, resulting in a very chewy textured beef ball that you can't get enough of! Overall, Shantou is a historic city with many buildings with character. You'll get lost wandering the old streets that are lined with buildings that have seen better days! We went on a trip down the coast from Xiamen to Shenzhen and stopped by Nan'ao Island. This Light House was the highlight. Expensive Island to visit crossing the bridge.
