• Historical background:
• A-Ma Temple was built in the first year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1488) and is the oldest of the three ancient temples in Macau (A-Ma Temple, Guanyin Hall, and Lianfeng Temple).
• The name of A-Ma Temple is related to the origin of Macau's Portuguese name "Macau". It is said that when the Portuguese first landed in Macau, they pointed to A-Ma Temple and asked the locals. The locals replied that it was A-Ma. The Portuguese thought that the island was called A-Ma, so they called Macau MACAU.
• Architecture and layout:
• A-Ma Temple includes buildings such as the main hall, Hongren Hall, and Guanyin Pavilion. They are distributed in the mountains, with winding paths, flowers and trees, rocks, and elegant scenery.
