Debargha (Dave) Dey joined the Department of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) as Assistant Professor on 15 December. Dey is a renowned researcher in the field of Human Factors and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

In his research, Dey focuses on automotive human factors, user behavior, traffic psychology and multimodal interaction. He uses mixed-methods research to gain insights into human behavior in interactions with technology, automation systems and AI. Key questions that drive his work are: “What is a meaningful interaction?” and ”How do we measure the success of an interaction?” Dave enjoys discussing topics such as usability, user experience (UX), cognitive psychology and user-centered design.

Dey earned his PhD cum laude from TU/e's Industrial Design department, where he studied how self-driving cars interact with pedestrians, cyclists and human-driven traffic in the absence of a human driver. Before his PhD, he completed a PDEng in User-System Interaction at TU/e and an MS in Computer Science at Vanderbilt University.

After his PhD, Dey spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at TU/e's Industrial Design department and then two years as a postdoc at Cornell Tech in New York. These experiences broadened his understanding and perspectives on design research. Now back in Eindhoven, he looks forward to stimulating discussions, exploring shared research interests and discovering new collaborative opportunities.

Dave is happy to be back in Eindhoven: “I am incredibly excited to be back at TU/e and to be part again of Industrial Design. The opportunity to collaborate with talented colleagues and students, and to contribute to groundbreaking research, is something I am greatly looking forward to.”
