A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Dakota, southern Ramsey, southwestern Washington, and southeastern Hennepin counties until 12:30 p.m. today.

Radar at about 11:30 a.m. indicated a severe thunderstorm near Columbia Heights capable of producing quarter-size hail and winds in excess of 65 mph. The storm was moving southeast at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.

The weather service said people in the path of the storm should prepare immediately for destructive winds, which may occur before any rain or lightning. People in the warning area should seek shelter and stay away from windows.
