KENOSHA, Wis.—The sprawling complex near Lake Michigan that once produced Chrysler engines in Kenosha would be razed and redeveloped under an agreement by federal, state and local officials.
Engine production at the 106-acre site was shut down a year ago, leaving the property in the hands of a trust that manages the assets left over from Chrysler’s bankruptcy.
An attorney who represents the city, Arthur Harrington, says getting all parties to agree on how to clean up the site for future development was like “herding cats.”
The Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/oKlZdZ) says that under the agreement, the trust will turn the property over to the city of Kenosha after the industrial equipment is sold and buildings are razed. Federal and state money will pay for an environmental cleanup that could reach $15 million.
