EAST TROY, Wis.—A Walworth County judge has ruled there is probable cause to send to trial the mother of twin babies who drowned in a bathtub at an East Troy apartment.
Melody Butt appeared in court Friday for her preliminary hearing.
Butt is charged with two counts of felony child neglect and other misdemeanor charges. A complaint says Butt ran a bath for the 11-month-old twins and then fell asleep in her bedroom on Sept. 22. The complaint says she woke up when a roommate came home and found the twins in an overflowing bath.
Two East Troy police officers testified in the hearing Friday. While they were on the stand, Butt cried almost the entire time.
WITI-TV (http://bit.ly/q71A7o) reports Butt is scheduled to enter a plea at her arraignment next Tuesday.
