UPDATED:

St. Paul police are investigating a Wednesday evening stabbing at Concordia University.

They responded to a report of an assault just before 6 p.m. When they arrived, they saw a trail of blood through the parking lot. Blood was on the grass and the parking lot’s entrance and exit, police spokesman Steve Linders said.

A security guard saw two men and two women looking at blood in the parking lot, but they jumped in a vehicle and drove away when the guard approached, Linders said.

Police did not find the victim at the scene, but later learned that the 26-year-old man was driven to Regions Hospital by a friend. He went into surgery and is expected to survive.

The victim was playing soccer with a friend when an argument broke out with a passerby. It escalated, and the victim was stabbed in the back of the arm, Linders said.

No arrests have been made, but the suspect is a 30-year-old.

The university is at 1282 Concordia Ave.
