Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has fully recovered from his illness but didn’t practice Wednesday because of hip, finger and ankle injuries.
Coach Mike Zimmer didn’t mention anything about Peterson’s injury status when speaking to the media before practice. It was first noted on the injury report sent out afterward, and Zimmer wasn’t available for comment.
Peterson previously had the finger injury while the others are new. He was listed as questionable for last Sunday’s game at Detroit after getting sick on the team plane but played and rushed for 98 yards.
Also not practicing Wednesday: defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd (ankle, knee), wide receiver Jarius Wright (concussion), linebacker Audie Cole (finger) and defensive end Justin Trattou (sprained ankle). Tight end Rhett Ellison (concussion), running back Zach Line (neck) and wide receiver Adam Thielen (ankle) were limited.
Zimmer said this week he’s uncertain when Floyd, who sat out against the Lions, will return. Trattou, out since being hurt Sept. 27 against San Diego, said he is doing much better.
“I’m going to try to get out there (and practice) by the end of the week,” Trattou said.
Wright has not passed the NFL-mandated concussion protocol and can’t talk to the media. When asked about his injury, Cole, who had his right hand wrapped, would say only, “I’m good.”
Cole is the Vikings’ top reserve at linebacker. His injury might have played a role in the team’s promotion of second-year linebacker Brandon Watts from the practice squad on Tuesday.
“We just felt like we needed some help at linebacker, and he’s done a good job,” Zimmer said. “He really has done a good job on the show teams and special teams stuff, and we have a lot of hope for him.”
The only other reserve linebacker on the active roster is rookie Edmond Robinson. He has played in two NFL games on special teams.
