Sunny Hostin received her undergraduate degree in communications from Binghamton University and her law degree from Notre Dame Law School. After graduation, Hostin served as an appellate law clerk before becoming a trial attorney and federal prosecutor with the United States Justice Department. While she was an assistant U.S. attorney, Hostin was awarded the Special Achievement Award by Attorney General Janet Reno for her prosecution of child sexual predators.

The native New Yorker went on to become an ABC News anchor and appeared on the Fox News Channel. Hostin became a legal analyst for CNN, where she wrote and coproduced a weekly segment called Sunny’s Law and was a fill-in coanchor for World News Now and America This Morning. Hostin joined The View in 2016.

Hostin released her debut novel, Summer on the Bluffs, in May 2021. The books became a trilogy with the releases of Summer on Sag Harbor in May 2023 and Summer on Highland Beach in summer 2024. Hostin dropped her memoir, I Am These Truths: A Memoir of Identity, Justice, and Living Between Worlds, in September 2020. She is also the founder and CEO of Sunny Hostin Productions.

She wed her husband, Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, in 1998. They welcomed son Gabriel in 2002 and daughter Paloma in 2006.
