“It’s great, couldn’t be better,” she told Us Weekly of welcoming her baby at a press conference for the film. “I couldn’t fake it, I’m really happy, and everything is just as good as it could possibly be.”

Though she has to leave her husband Will Kopelman and daughters Frankie and Olive behind, this press tour is all about family for Barrymore, who plays a single parent in the film who is forced to vacation with fellow single parent Sandler.

“When these two people quietly talk about how they just want to be good parents. What is going to make their kids happy and how are they going to function in this world,” the former child star said of her Blended character Lauren and Sandler’s character Jim. “That just gets me. It made me cry in the script, and it makes me cry in the movie.”

Barrymore’s childhood was highly-publicized and very traumatic, and the star declared her independence from her parents at age 15. It has inspired her to be a better mother.

“This is a girl in this movie that needs a mom,” she said of Bella Thorne‘s character Hilary. “I can relate to that. I had times in my life when I really needed a mom. I am now a mom. I am going to be there for my kids. Moms are my Achilles’ Heel, emotionally speaking. The mother is that emotional figure for all of us.”

After two closely consecutive pregnancies, Barrymore admitted she had a “love affair with food” and enjoyed “eating takeout and watching a lot of TV” in her sweatpants

“I would sum it up with respect,” she said of her relationship to the funny man. “If you respect somebody, you can make it in love, or lust, or happy, funny, or sad. For me, it all stems from respect. I’ve always respected him, I love him. He makes us laugh in the world. Aside from what we do together, I was so in love with the things he did from Saturday Night Live, Happy Gilmore, and Billy Madison, I love this person so much. He is so amazing. I just loved him and appreciated him.”
