Madonna and Guy Ritchie have settled their bitter custody battle over their eldest son, Rocco, Us Weekly can confirm.
“Yes, they have,” New York State Unified Court System spokesperson Lucian Chalfen told Us on Wednesday, September 7. “The court case is resolved.”
According to ABC, Madonna, 58, and the British film director, 47, were due in court on Wednesday. Rocco, 16, will remain in London where Ritchie resides. However, other details were not made public.
“Guy Ritchie is delighted to have this case behind him,” Ritchie’s attorney told ABC in a statement. “Everybody in the family is happy that an agreement has been reached and Rocco can continue to live with his father in London.”
The Grammy winner and Ritchie’s battle began late last year when Rocco refused to return to the U.S. for Christmas. “This entire thing is 40 percent Rocco and 60 percent Guy. Guy is trying hard to mess with her again,” a source claimed to Us at the time, adding that the singer was heartbroken over the situation. Rocco, meanwhile, allegedly “expressed very clearly” that he wanted to remain overseas, the insider added.
Back in March, Madonna and Ritchie called in for an NYC court hearing. Per The Telegraph, New York Supreme Court Justice Deborah Kaplan warned them to put their child first. “Frankly, both parties have chosen to live their lives in a very public way and may welcome publicity, but the child has not,” Kaplan said in court. “He would like this matter resolved and the issues concerning him and his family in the most private way possible.”
One month later, Madonna and Ritchie had a meeting about the situation, and she visited Rocco in London for two hours. “This is the first sign of him getting close to his mom again,” a source exclusively told Us at the time. “She’s in such a good mood.”
The private mother-son bonding time appeared to do the trick. The “Vogue” singer posted a cute Instagram photo of the two on April 29. Last month, she and Rocco vacationed together in Cuba and celebrated her birthday.
Madonna and Ritchie were married from 2004 to 2008 and are also parents of son David Banda, 10, who they adopted. Madonna is also mom of Lourdes, 19, from a previous relationship, and Mercy, 10, who she adopted. Ritchie shares three young children with his model wife, Jacqui Ainsley. The couple married in July 2015.
