Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly’s Relationship Timeline, From Costars to Couple

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly started off their relationship by being coworkers, but it quickly evolved into something more. Fox and Kelly (real name Colson Baker) met on the set of Midnight in the Switchgrass in March 2020. At the time, Fox was married to Brian Austin Green. Two months later, the costars were spotted together amid rumors of a split between Fox and Green. Green soon confirmed that he and Fox had called it quits after 10 years of marriage on his “…With Brian Austin Green” podcast in May 2020. The former couple share three children: Noah, Bodhi and Journey. Us reported in June 2020 that Fox and Kelly were “officially dating” after sparking romance rumors a month prior. The pair got engaged in January 2022 and have since weathered a few storms, but in November 2024, Fox announced she is pregnant with their first baby together. The pair met while filming Midnight in the Switchgrass in Puerto Rico. Film producer Emmett told Us exclusively that the pair were “friends on the movie, and I know them to have a professional relationship.”

Fox was spotted with Kelly in the Calabasas neighborhood of Los Angeles on May 15 amid speculation that she and husband Green had called it quits for a second time. Green confirmed on May 18 that he and Fox had split after 10 years of marriage during his “…With Brian Austin Green” podcast.

Green also commented on Fox’s relationship with Kelly at the time, saying, “They’re friends at this point.” He added: “From what she’s expressed, he’s a really just nice, genuine guy. And I trust her judgment. She’s always had really good judgment.”

One day after Fox's breakup with Green went public, a source told Us that Fox and Kelly had “definitely” taken their relationship out of the friend zone. The following day, Kelly released his music video for “Bloody Valentine,” which featured Fox. In the video, the two got steamy and almost kissed.

The duo were spotted in L.A. on June 15, holding hands and sharing a kiss for the first time since news of their rumored romance broke a month earlier. The same day, MGK quoted his own song via Twitter, writing, “I’m calling you my girlfriend, what the f–k,” seemingly putting a label on their relationship.

A source told Us exclusively on June 17 that the pair were officially an item. “Megan and MGK have gotten more serious and are officially dating and referring to one another as a boyfriend and girlfriend,” the insider said. “They’re enjoying spending more and more time together and have a strong connection.”

Fox referred to Kelly as her "twin flame" in a conversation with astrologer Susan Miller on an episode of the "Give Them Lala ... With Randall" podcast with Lala Kent and Emmett. "The second that I was in a room with him ... I knew right away that he was what I call a twin flame," Fox recalled. "Instead of a soul mate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time. So, we're actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately because I felt it right away."

MGK shared how Fox has made him a “better” person. “I think the universe caught on to me wanting to make a change. It was like, ‘Maybe we won’t make this a reality; maybe we’ll make this ironic,’” he told NME. “Instead of the downfall, go ahead and have the biggest rise of your f–king life.”

MGK declared himself "locked in" to his relationship with Fox on the August 14 episode of Thirst Tweets for BuzzFeed Celeb. “I’m locked in already right now," he replied to a fan who asked him out on a date. "No dates for me. Probably ever."

Kelly also turned down another fan's offer to let him "suck [their] toes." He responded, “Like I said, I’m only sucking one pair of toes.”

In an interview with Nylon, Kelly opened up about how Fox has positively impacted his life. “Love is not what’s being encouraged now. In fact, it’s exactly the opposite: Everything now is isolation, dehumanization, separation,” he explained. “And f–k, dude, you have in your head that you’re this rock star, with multiple women and all that. So, finding someone that can take you out of the fast lane and make sure that you’re safe, because at any minute you can crash — I love that it can evolve into that.”

Later, in an Interview profile, Kelly explained to Dave Franco how Fox has been helpful during his drug addiction recovery. “When you have a partner, mine being Megan, sitting there with you on those dark nights when you’re sweating and not being able to figure out why you’re so in your head, to help you get out of your head and put it in perspective, that really, really helps,” he said.

The duo partied the night away at the Dream Hotel in Los Angeles ahead of the release of Kelly's album Tickets to My Downfall. Fox lent her voice to one of the album's interludes, gushing over the nights they spent together. "I burn other memories just to make room for those ones," Kelly said on the brief song. "Because also if the world was coming to an end, I don't wanna close my eyes without feeling like I lived."

Fox also made several quick cameos in her boyfriend's "Drunk Face" music video, which documented his album release party.

Fox sparked engagement rumors when she was spotted wearing a huge ring on her left hand in New York City. Kelly also sported what appeared to be costume jewelry during the outing. Fox reacted to the speculation by sharing an Instagram Story photo of a ring that read, “F–k you,” adding an eye-roll emoji.

The couple attended the UFC 260: Miocic vs. Ngannou 2 event four days after Kelly was accused of cheating on ex-girlfriend Sommer Ray with Fox. The model alleged during a March 2021 appearance on the “Impaulsive” podcast that she was still dating the rapper when he met the actress. “I don’t really feel bad saying that because he did kind of cheat on me with Megan Fox,” she said. Fox and Kelly, however, showed a united front while spending time in Nevada together on March 27.

The pair celebrated Kelly's 31st birthday with a whole weekend of hanging out. On April 22, his actual birthday, they headed to Malibu for dinner at Nobu. Then, on April 24, Fox supported her boyfriend at his concert in Jacksonville, Florida. After the show, she posted a photo to her Instagram Stories that showed her jumping into his arms and wrapping her legs around him. Later, they headed to a UFC 261 fight where they kept up their PDA frenzy by holding hands backstage.

The couple raised eyebrows in February 2021 when the rapper revealed that he wears a necklace with Fox’s blood in it around his neck. Three months later, Kelly explained why that gift means so much to him while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Well, she was actually going out of town to film a movie. This was really new in our relationship,” MGK explained. “I didn’t have a passport either. So, she was going out to Bulgaria so I was kind of freaking out, like, ‘You’re gonna leave and I can’t even come see you.'” As a result, Fox gave him the pendant, which he carries with him when he isn’t wearing it. “Some people give, like, a handkerchief to their partner or whatever. She gave me her DNA,” he added.

Later that month, MGK gave his love a shout-out at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards after winning Top Rock Artist, calling her “my twin soul who showed me love.” The couple also showed off a ton of PDA and stuck out their tongues when they hit the red carpet together.

Kelly also took to social media to celebrate a special anniversary with the actress. "She said ‘i love you’ one year ago today," he revealed via Twitter.

Fox reflected on her first impression of Kelly in a profile for The Washington Post. The pair only worked together for two days on the set of Midnight in the Switchgrass, but she knew his name and that he “was a tall, blond tattooed rapper.” However, she did not see their “magical” connection coming.

“The first time I looked into his eyes, I was like … ‘I know you. I have known you so many times, in so many different forms, in so many different lives,’” she said, adding that she “wasn’t expecting it’d be like, ‘God, you are my soulmate,’ instantly.”

During a later interview with Who What Wear, Fox revealed that she made a pros and cons list before officially deciding to date Kelly. "When I met him, I knew instantly that this is a soul I’ve traveled with before, that this was a soul-mate connection, and that there was a purpose here," she explained. "There was my logical brain chiming and being like, 'This will never work for 101 reasons.'"

Fox implied that the duo had a wild time during a recent Airbnb stay. "When I tell you that the table at this air bnb saw some things," she wrote via Instagram, sharing two snaps of herself leaning against the table in question. In the comments, MGK added, "I'm really glad that's not our table anymore."

Later that month, Fox and Kelly held hands at the VMAs wearing a Mugler dress and a Dolce & Gabbana suit, respectively.

The pair literally chained themselves to one another at the December 4 launch party for UN/DN LAQR.

Kelly later admitted that Fox was the “only reason” he signed on for Midnight in the Switchgrass. “We were filming a movie, which ironically the only reason I took the movie was because they were like, 'Your scene's with Megan Fox,’ and I was like, 'I'll take the movie,’" he revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show on December 10. “I stayed outside the trailer, and my gut is always right and I'm grateful for it, because for some reason I knew she would invite me for lunch. Then, all of a sudden, someone came over and was like, 'Megan wants to know if you want to have lunch in her trailer.' And I was like, 'Oh, my God, I'm so surprised. Yeah, absolutely.’ I went in there and she said, ‘How do you feel?’ And I said, ‘I’m lost.’”

After Fox told him, “Well, let’s find you,” the musician knew he was lovestruck, telling host Drew Barrymore, “Killed me. She was cupid.”

The couple got engaged on January 11, 2022.

Kelly sang about his relationship on his album Mainstream Sellout — and even named one of the record's 16 tracks "Twin Flame." The lyrics read, "It's been six days since the last time I saw your face and you asked my sign / I told you mine, I question why, and you said, 'Everything's aligned.'" In the chorus, he sings, "You're too good for me, I'm too bad to keep / I'm too sad, lonely / I want you only."

During his performance at Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World Las Vegas, Kelly dedicated several songs to his fiancée. He and Fox also hung out with Alex Rodriguez after the show.

Later, during the Billboard Music Awards, Kelly sang “Twin Flame,” dedicating the track to his “wife” and their “unborn child.” After the awards show, Fox shared a series of snaps from their Las Vegas weekend via Instagram, including a text message exchange in which she revealed they “just cut a hole in the crotch” of her blue jumpsuit to “have sex.”

During a screening for Kelly's movie Taurus, director Tim Sutton opened up about the couple's wedding plans. "Supposedly [Machine Gun Kelly is a] bridezilla more than she is because she's been through it before," he exclusively told Us. "I made it my space to, like, work with them dramatically, answer questions, be there if they needed, but to give them their space."

The actor also got candid about how creating the film helped him in his personal life.

"Because of the way that I grew up, I kind of push away everybody and every situation that has a positive outcome because I just kind of perceive myself as unworthy or low or undeserving and that's been implemented since childhood. I'm learning a lot more about my childhood now and why I'm made like that," Kelly revealed during a panel. "I have a real problem accepting happiness and it's healthy watching it on screen to remind yourself like, 'OK yeah you don't want to end up like that guy.' I always have a weird way of writing things on paper that come true."

Fox, who was on stage at the time, supported her fiancé, saying, "You can't receive the gifts that God's trying to give you if your hands are closed. You have to open your hands."

In his Hulu documentary, Life in Pink, Kelly revealed that he contemplated suicide two years prior — and called Fox during his darkest moment. “I was like, ‘You aren’t here for me.’ I’m in my room and I’m, like, freaking out on her," he recalled in the film. "Dude, I put the shotgun in my mouth. And I’m yelling on the phone and, like, the barrel’s in my mouth. And I go to cock the shotgun and the bullet, as it comes back up, the shell just gets jammed. Megan’s, like, dead silent.”

After the incident, Kelly's daughter, Casie, and Fox teamed up to tell him that something had to change. “[They said], ‘I want to like, see you as my father’ and ‘I want to see you as my husband-to-be,’ and I was like, 'I need to kick the drugs for real this time,'" the musician explained.

Kelly referred to Fox as his "wife" while speaking to fans at a concert in Cleveland in August 2022. “I talked to my wife before I got on stage tonight," he said at the time. "She said, 'When you’re on stage, you’re where you love to be. Don’t think about anything, you don’t have to prove anything to anybody. Despite breakup speculation later that month, a source exclusively told Us that Kelly and Fox were “in the midst of wedding planning” and everything was “just fine between them.”

The insider added: “MGK is on tour for the next few months, so he's really focused on that. Megan is by his side when she can be and when she's not, they're constantly communicating over the phone. She's with her kids a lot of the time, which people don't always see since she keeps them out of the public eye. … They are spiritually connected and have this deep-rooted love for each other that's unbreakable.”

Despite some serious ups and downs — "it got really bad between them," a source exclusively told Us about the pair's relationship — “Megan and MGK haven’t set a date yet but they’re secretly planning their wedding. They’re working on it and also working hard on themselves,” the insider said. “They’ve worked on their problems and worked really hard to get to the place where they are today. It’s still a struggle at times and they tend to have a lot of ups and downs. He is making a lot of effort to be more mature. He’s not always easy to deal with. He still has this teenage side to him.”

Fox later confirmed she and Kelly were still very much on, sharing a very NSFW comment on her man's Instagram. “Never has anyone with better bone structure walked this earth 😍,” she wrote. “And 6 foot 5? Kill me or get me pregnant. Those are the only options.”

Fox sparked split speculation when she scrubbed Kelly from her Instagram and posted a series of pics — a video of letters burning — with a caption from Beyoncé’s infamous Lemonade album. The post came the same weekend the twosome attended several Super Bowl events, but according to a source, the actress ditched their plans after a “big fight.” (She also later deactivated her social media profile.)

“She was supposed to go to his performance at the Sports Illustrated party, but they had a fight and she canceled plans and flew out Saturday evening,” the insider said.

Despite the drama, a source told Us that Fox and Kelly were still together. “They have a very intense relationship, and they are both very passionate people. That combination can sometimes explode, and they love hard but also fight hard,” the insider explained. “It is really a communication issue that they need to work through and that is why they are going to counseling.”

The source continued: “MGK feels conflicted about partying like a rock star and enjoying this exciting time in his life [over] settling down. Megan has passed the partying phase of life and that is why they are at different stages in life. That is the real reason why they are struggling at the moment.”

"Megan and MGK are currently on a break but are still in contact," the source explained. "They have stalled wedding planning to work on their issues, but they are very hot and cold. "Colson knew it was going to take a lot of growth and healing to make things really work with Megan," a second source added. "But he knows she's worth everything and more, so he would go to the ends of the earth to repair their relationship no matter what it took."

The second insider noted that the pair's trip to Hawaii was "just what they needed to reconnect and work on their relationship" ahead of a marriage. “As difficult as it was, this rough patch almost brought them closer together in a lot of ways," the source noted. The couple were seen leaving Kelly's sold-out show at London's Royal Albert Hall walking hand in hand. The sighting came one day after Fox's Johnny & Clyde costar Tyson Ritter claimed that the rapper had a meltdown when he suggested that his character, Vince, put his fingers in Fox's character Alana's mouth following her death.

"Colson, like, just goes from zero to, like, rage and [was] super angry. He was super bummed about me asking if I could put my fingers in Megan Fox’s mouth and I knew she was right there and he just went ballistic. He kind of went [into] maniac mode," the All-American Rejects frontman alleged during an appearance on the "Tuna on Toast With Stryker" podcast.

That same week, a source exclusively told Us that Fox and Kelly had been "in serious couples therapy" and "seeing a spiritual healer" to work through their issues. The insider added that the pair are "hoping for 2024" for their wedding. “They’ve come a long way. Friends think they will make it through and [eventually] start planning their wedding again.”

An insider exclusively told Us that Fox and Kelly had jumped back into wedding planning after pressing pause on their nuptials earlier in the year. “They’re on the right track again,” the source explained. “They’ve had so much success in therapy together. As they start to trust each other, they’ve been talking about getting married again.”

The insider noted that the couple were planning to invite more than 5,000 people to their Los Angeles wedding, with a smaller ceremony to follow in Italy. They still want to host two events, the source explained, but the festivities will be more low-key. “There haven’t been any deposits put down,” the insider told Us. “But they are both on board again and are excited to start planning the new version of their wedding.”

Fox confirmed that she suffered a miscarriage at some point during her romance with Kelly. “I had never been through anything like that before in my life,” she said during an interview on Good Morning America. “I have three kids, so it was very difficult for both of us, and it sent us on a very wild journey together and separately and together and apart … trying to navigate, ‘What does this mean?’ and ‘Why did this happen?’”

In her poetry book, Pretty Boys Are Poisonous, Fox wrote about seeing an ultrasound of a baby girl at 10 weeks and a day, writing, “Maybe if you hadn't ... maybe if I had.”
