Looks serious to Us! The second official teaser for highly-anticipated biopic, Foxcatcher, dropped Wednesday, July 2, providing a look at the dramatic acting skills of stars Channing Tatum, Steve Carell, and Mark Ruffalo.
In the film based on a true story, Tatum, 34, swaps his comical 22 Jump Street persona for the role of determined wrestling champ Mark Schultz, whose Olympian older brother David (Ruffalo) was eventually killed by their team’s sponsor John Eleuthere du Pont (Carell) in 1996.
The movie features du Pont’s rocky relationship with the two brothers in the events leading up to David’s death.
Office alum Carell, 51, unrecognizable in his role as the millionaire murderer, is seen in the clip behaving violently and erratically. His performance as du Pont generated a considerable amount of buzz after the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Tatum, too, gets dramatic in the teaser, and in one disturbing scene, smashes his head repeatedly through a mirror.
The movie, which was originally set to be released in December 2013, was pushed back by nearly one year. Moneyball and Capote filmmaker Bennett Miller directed Foxcatcher, and won the award for Best Director at Cannes after the film’s debut.
During a 22 Jump Street Q&A with Us Weekly, Tatum explained what it was like to star in a broad range of movies — from comedy to drama. “You just have to step up to the plate and swing as hard as you can,” Tatum told Us, “and try to keep growing and keep taking parts that challenge you.”
The Magic Mike star added that he looks for challenging roles in “movies that aren’t some derivative version of another movie [I’ve] done.”
Foxcatcher hits theaters on Nov. 14. Watch the teaser above!
