Down time with Downton? This seems to be the case for Prince William and wife Kate Middleton, both of whom are fans of the popular British period drama Downton Abbey, as revealed on Watch What Happens Live! on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Cast members of the TV show — Rob James-Collier, Lesley Nicol, Allen Leech, and Laura Carmichael — sat down with Andy Cohen and shared how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 31, became fans of the show after baby Prince George was born back in July.
Leech, who plays Tom Branson on the PBS series (ITV for the UK), was told personally by the Duke of Cambridge himself that he and his wife are hooked on Downton. “I was actually at an event last week with Prince William, now the Duke of Cambridge, so yeah — I met him last week, shook his hand,” Leech shared. “He actually said, ‘I’m a big fan of the show — only now that my wife’s had a baby,'” Leech revealed.
The handsome blonde actor, 32, further explained: “Obviously he’s now got a lot of down time, so [Kate]’s gone, ‘I’m watching this and you’re watching it with me,'” Leech said of Prince William’s interactions with his wife.
The Kensington Palace residents have been busy this holiday season. On Wednesday night, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend a screening of David Attenborough’s new 3D documentary film at the Natural History Museum.
Season 4 of Downton Abbey will hit even closer to home for William: The setting is in London and the characters meet the royal family!
