Hollywood A-listers and royals (Duchess Kate has worn the brand 36 times to date!) love London-based designer Jenny Packham for her embellished, glamorous creations. “It is my greatest pleasure and challenge to create classically contemporary and special pieces that flatter and accentuate a woman’s form,” Packham tells Us. “I want women to feel the most fabulous versions of themselves.”
Packham calls her customers “empowered and understatedly elegant.” She says her current collection is inspired by Jean Harlow and Hollywood’s Pre-Code Movie Era: “The collection still stays true to our trademark sequins and embellishments, but pays homage to the black-and-white screen star’s wardrobes by playing with tulle, taffeta and jacquard.”
“I often design for the red carpet, I am so inspired by the allure and beauty of silver screen icons past and present. There is nothing more thrilling than seeing one of my designs on a woman I admire,” says Packham. A memorable moment: Sandra Oh’s crepe one-shoulder gown which she wore to the Screen Actors Guild Awards. “I have long admired Sandra and I am currently hooked on Killing Eve! Sandra won the award for Best Actress that evening, it was a special red carpet moment for us both,” Packham enthuses.
More standout styles include Zooey Deschanel’s jacquard organza frock, which Packham says is one of her favorite designs from the spring collection. “Zooey looks effortless, I love her choice of a bold lip color and matching accessories,” she says. Also, Janet Mock’s sequin wrap dress at the 2019 Time 100 Gala: “Janet exudes old Hollywood glamour; I love the silhouette, fern green sequin embellishments and understated elegance of the gown, which was accented with delicate gold accessories.”
