Sonic Racing CrossWorlds has been announced

Sega has announced a new Sonic racing game is in development.

An extremely brief trailer for the game showed Sonic getting into a kart and driving into a portal.

The last three Sonic kart racing games were developed by Sumo Digital, with all three being well received by critics and players.

2010’s Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing combined Sonic characters with those from other Sega franchises, including Super Monkey Ball, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Shenmue and Space Channel 5.

The Xbox 360 version also featured a cameo playable appearance by Banjo and Kazooie.

Cameos also played a part in its sequel, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which added Ralph from Disney’s Wreck-it Ralph and real-life racer Danica Patrick to the roster.

Transformed also played to its title by featuring vehicles that could transform into karts, boats or planes depending on the situation.

Finally, in 2019 Sumo Digital released Team Sonic Racing, a team-based racing game that used a similar engine to the All-Stars games but focuses solely on Sonic characters. This was a little less well-received, partly because it no longer celebrated Sega’s other IPs.
