Las Vegas Raiders fans will be required to show proof of vaccination or get vaccinated at stadium

The Las Vegas Raiders want to run interference on fans who haven’t gotten COVID-19 vaccines, requiring them to show proof of vaccination or get inoculated at the gate prior to entering Allegiant Stadium.

The team’s decision, which followed an announcement from Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak that masks need not be worn at events that require attendees be vaccinated, resulted from the prevalence of the delta variant and its increased spreading throughout the United States this summer.

“Health and safety has always been our number one priority,” Raiders owner Mark Davis said in the team’s Monday announcement. “After consultation with Governor Sisolak and other community leaders, this policy ensures that we will be able to operate at full capacity without masks for fully vaccinated fans for the entire season.”

Many other sports teams are struggling to decide how to handle the delta variant while still letting their fans attend in-person games. The New Orleans Saints warned back in July that the delta variant could affect attendance at the Superdome.

Without revealing what percentage of his school’s football team is vaccinated, Greg Bryne, athletics director for the University of Alabama, encouraged both players and fans to get the shots during an interview with AL.com, even recording a public service announcement saying inoculation would allow for a return to normalcy at football games.
