James Beckerman, MD, FACC, is a cardiologist with the Providence Heart and Vascular Institute at St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR. He is the medical director of the cardiac rehabilitation program and is the founder and medical director of Play Smart Youth Heart Screenings.
Beckerman is passionate about healthy eating and exercise, and he believes that prevention is for everyone, especially people with heart disease. He is the former chair of the Oregon Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and serves as the team cardiologist for the Portland Timbers Major League Soccer team. Beckerman speaks often at medical conferences as well as throughout the community about prevention, heart disease in athletes, and sudden death in youth sports.
After publishing his first book, The Flex Diet, in 2011, he appeared on the Today show and the Dr. Oz Show, and was featured in WebMD Magazine, the Huffington Post, the New York Post, USA Today, and Health magazine. He is on the clinical advisory board of WebMD Health Services andFitness magazine.
Beckerman graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College and earned his doctorate from Harvard Medical School. He completed his medical training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and at Stanford Hospital and Clinics.
