WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — Families of victims and survivors of gun violence gathered for the annual Mother’s Prayer Against Gun Violence.

A group of people in Warren were brought together by tragedy and advocacy against violence. This is the seventh annual prayer, and organizers say the gun violence in the Mahoning Valley isn’t getting better.

“Enough is enough” and “Think before you act” were chanted in a march around Lloyd McCoy Health Center.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2021, around 58 people died every day from gun violence. In 2022, that number grew to around 132 deaths every day.

Pamela McCoy lost her son Lloyd in 2009. Fifteen years later, her grief is still strong, but she has turned her grief into advocacy for other parents.

“The program that I’m starting — Pheonix Rising Oasis — that will, I’m advocating for them because I went through the things they’re feeling,” she said.

This year, two trees were planted in Remembrance Park — one for victims, and one for survivors.
