WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – While a career criminal wanted for robbery charges in Metro Nashville continues to recover at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, new video of how he got injured has emerged.

Video from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office from the June 19 incident shows multiple squad cars chasing 49-year-old Cornelius Pierce, who was driving a stolen Nissan Rogue.

Pierce, an ex-con, whose arrest history goes back a quarter century, was wanted for robbing a 50-year-old Mapco store clerk on June 10, where he allegedly stole her cell phone and vehicle.

The video shows Pierce driving close to a 100 mph. Around Concord Road, Brentwood police officers spiked Pierce’s tires.

Pierce then pulled into the break down lane, then got out of the car and scaled the center divider.

Soon, deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office were running after the ex-con with guns drawn in the break down lane of I-65 South.

“You’re not going to make it. Just stop before someone gets hurt,” a deputy yelled out.

A moment later, the deputy got on his radio.

“He’s been hit. Get EMS now. Get EMS now,” the deputy radioed.

Investigators said the deputies risked their own lives, crossing four lanes of I-65 South and found Pierce alive, but in obvious pain on the other side of the highway.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department told News 2 when Pierce will be charged with the Mapco robbery and could also face more felonies once he is discharged.

According to the Department of Correction, Pierce’s most recent conviction was in 2021 for aggravated assault out of Davidson County.

He was sentenced to five years and freed on probation.
