Aerotherm is a leading consulting and engineering software firm with a vast amount of experience in the practical application of CFD in industry. We are the Southern African distributors and resellers for Siemens's flagship CFD package: Simcenter STAR-CCM+. We have been applying CFD since 1995 to solve numerous fluid flow and heat transfer related problems. Improving efficiency, reliability, and maintainability within a wide scope of industries. Our areas of expertise range from modelling coal combustion, boilers, ESP's, bag filters, classifiers, fans, and many other similar systems.

    My CFD workstation has a ‘relatively’ strong graphics card in it… wait, hang on, how does it perform compared to my CPU in running my simulations? Seeing all these releases of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ about GPU Acceleration and how far the capability has progressed in the last 2 years got me thinking… let's run a benchmark to see how consumer CPU and GPU compare. So here we go! Details of the benchmark simulation. Compressible flow over the ONERA M6 Wing with 2.8 Million Polyhedral core and Quad surface Cells. Coupled solver in Steady State with a Mach Number of 0.84 and AoA of 3 degrees. CPU = Intel Core i9-14900K having 8 performance cores GPU = NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB GDDR6X (Ada Lovelace Architecture) ...and the results are in! The GPU managed an average 0.41s per iteration compared to the CPU that did 2.43s. That is a 5.9x speed-up solving on the GPU! Which is the equivalent of 47 CPU cores (parallel scaling over multi nodes not considered). With the continuous expansion of the GPU Acceleration capability, it is worth noting the GPU in your current and future workstation.     Why do TABS always deliver water full of bubbles? --> CFD! https://lnkd.in/eDieJeNA This multiphase VoF CFD (Volume of Fluid) by our partner AEROTHERM shows why you don't pour pure water from the tab, you are always dragging air along with it! Highlights of this simulation: 💧 VoF multiphase simulation of both air and water. With Implicit Multistep you can tune it so good, that it can reach REALTIME while maintaining necessary accuracy - on CPU workstations, not GPU clusters! 🕵️♂️ incredibly fine details resolved: all the nets and small gaps are included in this simulation! ⏰ With Adaptive Timestep and MHRIC scheme you can run even faster! 🕸 In these use cases, you can also benefit from Adaptive Mesh Refinement - meaning you only have a fine mesh there, where and WHEN you need it - at the free surface of bubbles etc. 👩💻 Others might use Blender or comparable software to post process, but NO!
