On November 18th, we convened a Core Partners' Meeting to address critical challenges and opportunities in strengthening global water and sanitation regulatory systems. The discussions yielded key insights and actionable steps: 🔷 Survey Findings Ensuring regulatory bodies’ independence and transparency. Establishing clear legislative frameworks to support effective governance. Prioritizing equitable access for marginalized groups and tailoring strategies to national contexts. 🔷 Addressing Climate Impacts Developing integrated water resource management frameworks to enhance resilience. Leveraging technology and closing data gaps to improve regulatory decision-making. 🔷 Fostering Collaboration Promoting inclusive partnerships and public awareness through enhanced transparency and accountability mechanisms. 🔷 Defining Political Commitment Emphasizing funding, resources, and legal frameworks to sustain long-term regulatory effectiveness. 🔷 Future Directions Establishing working groups to focus on government engagement, resilient regulatory frameworks, and inclusive service delivery. This meeting reinforced our collective commitment to advancing impactful, sustainable, and inclusive regulatory practices worldwide. Over the last few days, our Projects Coordinator Sam Sebbowa accompanied by our key partner on the Africa Mini-Grid Electrification Drive Project, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA)'s Amon Mwadime, MBA, has been in Kampala Uganda working with our new partners of COMESA Secretariat under their RIFF Program delivering a training on the Enhanced AFUR Tariff Tool to the wider stakeholders of the minigrid sector in Uganda from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (Uganda) Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) Winch Energy Electricity Regulatory Authority Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company ENGIE. This is the start of a much broader and wider work that AFUR is undertaking in this phase of the mini-grid project to ensure their is a better environment for #SDG7 to be achieved on the continent.
