At SuperReturn Africa we were excited to contribute to the conversation on emerging fund managers. It was a week filled with inspiring conversations, re-connection, new friends, groundbreaking insights, and real progress in the world of #African investing. #EmergingManagers #VentureCapital #AfricaRising #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #SMMEs #AccessToFinance
Reminiscing about the past two weeks of 2024’s journey of an #emerging #fund manager in #Africa. What makes you an emerging fund manager? As per definition: It is when you are raising your vintage 1-3 funds. Or you represent an under represented segment of the population. 🤷♀️ Interesting. With this definition it pretty much makes the entire African space “emerging”. I spoke at SuperReturn Africa on the trends, the realities and the impact of this asset class in a session ‘The Emerging Fund Manager’s Handbook’. Best fact of this session was quoted from the Collaborative for Frontier Finance that showed over 3 years how the emerging managers are investing in a growing nr of SMME’s. In 2023, 60 managers invested in 1200 SMME’s. They are doing their job, reaching spaces that traditional funding cannot reach. 🙌 At the USAID Mobilizing Investment event, Anza Capital presented our investee companies Luyolo Sijake, founder of Qwili, and Zane Stenning from Mia Health to talk to investors about the access their businesses are providing in townships and in healthcare. The real heroes. The founders that are solving local challenges on scale.
