11th Nov 2024 💪🏽Empowering Communities Through Digital Connectivity – Launch of the Deploying Community Networks Training! Today, we proudly kicked off a 4-week training on Deploying Community Networks, a collaboration between Dunia Moja Community Network, the Chief's Office Mnarani Location, Mkwajuni VTC and NTECH Training Centre. This initiative aims to equip our local youth with critical digital and technical skills to create and maintain sustainable, community-driven networks. We’re deeply grateful to Association for Progressive Communications’ #LocNetProject for their support in making this possible! To break the ice and build connections, we started with #BingoIntro, where participants went around asking and answering questions to get to know each other. This activity set a foundation in creating an environment where learning is interactive and collaborative. Our training is designed with three main goals in mind: 1️⃣🖥️ Basic Digital Literacy – We began with hands-on computer servicing to help participants understand the essentials of digital technology. This session allowed students to delve into the inner workings of computers, providing fully serviced machines to Mkwajuni VTC while giving students practical exposure to computer hardware. This foundational skill-building in digital literacy will pave the way for understanding larger network concepts. 2️⃣📊 Community Network Readiness Assessment – Participants will learn to evaluate their communities' readiness for a Community Network (CN). This process involves understanding the resources, infrastructure, and potential barriers, as well as gauging the needs and aspirations of the community members. Conducting these assessments ensures that CNs are built sustainably, with a clear vision aligned to the specific needs of the community. 3️⃣🌐 Designing and Deploying Computer Networks (DDCN) – The training will culminate in students gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in network design and deployment. They will learn about network components, configuration, budgeting, and selecting the appropriate equipment. This hands-on learning equips participants with the skills needed to set up and manage reliable, secure networks tailored to their communities. This training goes beyond just skill-building; it empowers youth with the knowledge and confidence to be leaders in bridging the digital divide. We’re fostering self-reliance, community empowerment, and the drive to make digital inclusion a reality in underserved areas. Special thanks to Internet Society Foundation Learning for the learning resources. Follow us on this journey of 4 week transformational journey for #KilifiYouth, as we empower them on #ConnectingTheUnconnected! 🌍 #CommunityNetworks #DigitalInclusion #TechForGood #NetWardens #EmpoweringCommunities #DigitalLiteracy #YouthEmpowerment #ConnectivityForAll
