Test Flight Thursday #3 - Simulation phase - Avior Labs Universal Simulation Environment (USE) The third step in the Avior Labs Test Flight Process entails the Simulation stage. New features undergo rigorous testing in a high-fidelity simulated environment during this phase.  Avior Labs employs our Universal Simulation Environment (USE) integrated simulation framework to support this process. Various levels of process noise (e.g. wind, turbulence, gusts, sensor noise, quantisation, etc.) may be introduced into the virtual environment to ensure a realistic test. This approach is instrumental in accurately representing real-world conditions for testing purposes, and significantly reduces the risk when implementing new features. The Avior Labs USE is a key part of our drone development and flight test toolbox, built from the ground up to be modular, provide networked simulation capabilities, and allow high-performance desktop simulation for faster-than-real-time and real-time applications. USE forms the physics framework that interfaces with the autopilot firmware in our software-in-the-loop (SITL) environment. Thousands of simulations were conducted during the Elevation development phases, ensuring a safe, efficient, and productive flight test campaign. Avior Labs is pleased to announce that we will participate in the AISI Aerospace and Defence Industry Day! We will present a short overview of the history of Elevation and several specific engineering problems that we resolved through joint projects with our partners and through the support of the dtic and their Aerospace Industry Support Initiative. These projects included the development of novel production techniques that significantly reduced the production time of selected parts while reducing the airframes' overall structural weight with no compromise in strength, durability and quality. They also included a project that resulted in the successful implementation of fully embedded, custom-designed datalink antennas. Besides our presentation, we will also have a static display of one of our Elevation VTOL drones. Visitors will be able to interact directly with some of our senior engineers. Avior Labs would like to congratulate Crispin McKenzie on his recent outstanding achievements 🥇 Crispin was recently awarded with the Aerosud Prize for the top final-year aeronautical engineering student, achieving a cumulative aggregate of 74%. He was also awarded with Aeronautical Engineering Design prize for his final-year design project where he designed a training drone for fifth-generation fighter jets, aimed at reducing the cost of combat training and simulations. The drone was designed to match the performance of the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor across its flight envelope and could be deployed either as an aggressor or defender. The project received a final grade of 82%. We are extremely proud and privileged to have you on our team!
