Reaffirming Reconciliation: A Good Foundation of the GBS | BPO Industry Since 1995, the 16th of December has symbolised South Africa's commitment to reconciliation—renewing relationships, fostering forgiveness, and addressing past challenges. In an industry as diverse as ours, embracing reconciliation is essential. It is through collaboration and shared purpose that we achieve impact. As Nelson Mandela wisely said, "Reconciliation means working together to correct the legacy of past injustices." This Reconciliation Day, BPESA celebrates the spirit of global partnerships and unity that continue to drive transformation and growth in our sector. This year has been one to remember and I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your ongoing contributions and support towards creating a robust and limitless industry. I want to take a brief moment to reflect on the momentum we’ve built together and look ahead to what’s to come. Yesterday, we hosted the ABSA Phase 4 RFP Briefing Session, an integral step towards fulfilling the Masterplan mandate of creating half a million jobs by 2030. Programmes like these are pivotal not only for creating opportunities but also for strengthening our talent pipeline through skilling, reskilling, and upskilling initiatives. Let’s take a moment to seriously consider the gravity of this mandate, as achieving it requires the sector to create over 4,000 jobs every month. Together, I know this is possible! As we prepare for the year ahead, the BPESA Annual General Meeting, scheduled for January 2025, is shaping up to be the cornerstone event to set the tone for the next 12 months. Did you know that the United Kingdom remains South Africa's largest source market for globally-focused jobs, with remarkable growth in the latest jobs report! Between April and June 2024, 46.8% of new hires were dedicated to UK markets, followed by the United States at 41.7%. Other markets included Australia (5.7%), New Zealand, Canada, Japan (4.6%), and Europe (1.2%). Over the longer term (March 2019–June 2024), the UK leads at 51.1%, with the US at 31.2%, and other global markets making up the balance. This week has been remarkable as we reflect on the success of last week’s UK Advisory Council Session. The networking sessions were both impactful and enriching, highlighting the strength of our industry partnerships. It was a pleasure to see BPESA members participating in the CxOutsourcers 2024 event and actively engaging in the BPESA UK Advisory Council roundtable. It truly was a week filled with dynamic global networking! A special thank you to the dti (Department of Trade and Industry: Republic of South Africa)'s foreign office for facilitating these invaluable discussions and driving the industry’s growth. With such momentum, 2025 promises to be BOUNDLESS. Key roundtable highlights included insightful discussions on the MasterPlan, the GBS | BPO Value Proposition Refresh, and further progress on the Incentive Review—an essential pillar for meeting the rising demand. As the go-to-market strategy takes shape, we eagerly anticipate its launch in 2025. Skills Update Team BPESA is actively preparing for the ABSA 4 RFP Leadership Development Programme. This initiative exemplifies our commitment to upskilling industry talent, which serves as the cornerstone of our sector’s continued growth.
