ANIMAL CRUELTY MUST STOP! NO ANIMAL SHOULD SUFFER!

About us

Established in 1872, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA is the founding society of the SPCA movement in South Africa. We are the only animal welfare organisation in the Western Cape that offers a 24 hour Inspectorate service to the public. In our proactive fight to prevent animal cruelty, we provide veterinary care services to impoverished communities, educate children on responsible pet care and teach husbandry skills to small-scale farmers. We rescue and rehabilitate all types of animals, including wildlife in distress, and instigate legal action against perpetrators of animal cruelty. Our Adoption Centre, Horse Care Unit and Farmyard provide a safe refuge for thousands of animals until we find them loving and caring homes. Knowing that we make a difference by righting some of the wrongs inflicted on defenceless animals is what inspires us and drives us to action. Last year alone, we sterilised over 6,500 animals, reducing the region’s animal over-population problem, provided primary veterinary care to 35,000 animals, rescued and cared for 1,400 wild animals and responded to 39,000 reports of animal cruelty.

  • 🔥 THE SEARCH CONTINUES – EVERY LIFE MATTERS 🔥 Our Search & Rescue Team is still on the mountain today, working hand in hand with the relevant authorities to cover as much ground as possible in the safest, most efficient way. With a vast, unforgiving landscape ahead we need to work smart! 💔 The heartbreaking reality is that many baby birds and slow-moving creatures never had a chance to escape the fire’s wrath. But in the devastation, a miracle—a single survivor has been found. A tortoise, trapped fortuitously in an uncovered manhole, was left untouched by the flames that must've raged over him. A single misstep that could've spelled disaster became his saving grace. Against all odds, this little guy cheated death twice but only because we found him. 💙 Searching is hard work, but for even one life saved, it’s worth every step. Our fire-trained team is doing everything they can, even wetting small, smoking areas of ground as they go. Thank you for your support that's kept us searching and saving animals. We couldn't do this without your support and we are so grateful. Please keep supporting this incredible team 🙏❤️https://lnkd.in/guGBWTmt #SPCAWildlifeRescue #TableMountainFire #EveryLifeMatters #ActNow

  • 🔥 THE FIRE MAY BE CONTAINED, BUT OUR MISSION CONTINUES. 🔥 The Table Mountain fire has been contained, and while flare-ups persist in Redhill, the blaze has finally lost most of its fury. We are deeply grateful to the brave firefighters who worked tirelessly to bring this monster to its knees. Now, our Search & Rescue Team pushes forward into the aftermath. The areas we are searching have been deemed safe for our fire-trained team, but they are anything but easy—hot, dusty, and fragile, where solid ground crumbles to ash with a single misstep. We are combing every crevice, every scorched patch of earth, searching for survivors. It’s a massive area, steep and unforgiving, but we are walking a grid, following the faintest tracks in the ash, and literally leaving no stone unturned in our search for the injured. Slow-moving creatures like tortoises stood little chance against the flames—many did not make it. But it is the thought of those still clinging to life, suffering in silence, waiting for help, that keeps us going. They are who we have come for. 💙 THANK YOU! Your support has kept us searching and kept us treating! 🔹 HOW YOU CAN HELP: 💧 Leave shallow water dishes out for displaced wildlife—add stones for small animals to perch on. 👀 Look out for injured or displaced animals and call us immediately. 📞 We are available 24/7 on this number 021 700 4158/9 🙏 Donate to keep our teams in the field, saving lives: https://lnkd.in/dMk2bcyJ We won’t stop until every last survivor has been found. #SPCAWildlifeRescue #TableMountainFire #SavingSurvivors #EveryLifeMatters #HopeAmongstTheAshes

  • Simple words that spoke volumes. 🐾 "Jy oraait My Boy? Pappa’s hier." 💙 On World Spay Day, we stepped in together—and the impact was life-changing. 171 animals sterilised. Thousands of unwanted litters were prevented. But beyond the numbers, we're celebrating something even more powerful—a community’s endearing love for their animals. You need your sound up for this video! 📣 Despite life’s hardships, these pets are family. Their owners brought them to be sterilised, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for ticks and fleas —not just because it was free, but because they care. Their dogs and cats went home with full bellies, collars, tags, and most importantly, a healthier future and it was an honour to be of service to them. 🐶🐱 This is what happens when we step in together. We unite our strengths. We pool our resources and We get more done! Read the full story here 👇 https://lnkd.in/da3yKreb #WeStepIn 💙 #WorldSpayDay 🌍 #BreakTheCycle 🔄 #SPCA 🐾 #WeStepinTogether

  • 🐢🔥 JUST IN TIME! FAST ACTION SAVES 6 OVERHEATING TORTOISES FROM TABLE MOUNTAIN FIRE! 🔥🐢 Today, amidst the charred remains of animals who never had a chance, our team found life—and saved it! Our Search & Rescue Team combed through the scorched aftermath of the Table Mountain fire, where they found six tortoises struggling on the burnt, ground. Their shells and legs were blackened with ash, their bodies hot to the touch —but they were alive. 💦 FAST ACTION SAVED THEM! Equipped with portable water hoses, our team cooled and hydrated the tortoises—a simple but life-saving act. Two of the tortoises had minor burn wounds, which were treated by our qualified first responders before all six were moved to safety. They will be released into a safe, lush area later this evening. These six were the lucky ones. 🔥 But our work is far from over. Our search continues tomorrow, at first light. Please keep our Inspectors searching and saving with a donation of any amount made here: 👇https://lnkd.in/duFkQQZS #SPCAWildlifeRescue #TableMountainFire #EveryLifeMatters #ActNow

  • 🔥 URGENT: SPCA SEARCH & RESCUE DEPLOYED AFTER TABLE MOUNTAIN FIRE – WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🔥 The fire that tore through Table Mountain overnight may soon be contained, but for the animals caught in its path, the crisis is far from over. Our Inspectors are on the ground right now, ready to search for and help injured wildlife—and they won’t stop until they are sure that every animal in need of help has received it. 🐾 HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP RIGHT NOW: 💧 Put out shallow dishes of water for displaced animals. Add stones so small animals can safely perch to drink. 👀 Be on the lookout for injured or displaced animals in your area. 📦 If you find an injured animal and it is safe to do so: ✅ Gently place it in a ventilated cardboard box lined with a towel / if the animal is burned, a sheet. ✅ Keep the animal calm by covering the box and keeping it away from pets and people. ✅ Call us immediately on 021 700 4158/9 – we will come to you! 🚷 STAY SAFE: Trails in Newlands, Devil’s Peak, and Maclear’s Beacon are closed due to fire damage and risks of rockfalls.
