  • 🐟In South Africa, small-scale fisheries are the heart of coastal communities, supporting livelihoods, food security, and cultural heritage. Yet, these vital fishers face significant challenges daily: 🚨 Safety risks as they venture further from shore to secure their catch. 📉 Limited access to tools that ensure traceability and improve their value chain. 🌍 Growing pressures from climate change and industrial fishing practices. At CLS, we believe that no fisher should be left behind. This is why we created NEMO – a game-changing Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) tailored for small-scale fisheries. Here's how NEMO makes a difference: ✅ Safety first: Real-time alerts and tracking ensure fishers can always be located, no matter how far they are. ✅ Sustainability: By providing data-driven insights, NEMO helps authorities manage resources responsibly, ensuring a brighter future for South African fisheries. ✅ Affordability: Designed with artisanal fishers in mind, NEMO is accessible and robust, making cutting-edge technology available to all. With NEMO, South African fishers can feel connected, protected, and empowered. If you want to know more about NEMO, please contact us: https://lnkd.in/ezztMu5Q #vms #nemo #tech4good #sustainablefishing

  • 🐢 Bheni’s Great Ocean Adventure: an astounding journey of 18,000km! Turtles are truly remarkable travelers, and the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation's very own Bheni is no exception! 👩⚕️ Rescued in 2022 with an infection on his carapace, Bheni received a year of dedicated care, rest, and treatment before being released into the pristine waters of De Hoop Nature Reserve. From there, his journey of a lifetime began—riding the Agulhas Current eastward into the Indian Ocean. Recently, Bheni ventured west toward the Somali coastline, spending time in the nutrient-rich Somali eddies. These waters are a turtle’s dream buffet, filled with tasty snacks! 🐠 Not long after, he caught a northward current into the Arabian Sea, explored Yemen’s coastline, and then swam through the Gulf of Aden toward Djibouti, where he’s currently navigating the northern coastline. 📍 The stats are incredible: Bheni has traveled aon average over 52 km per day! 🛰️ Thanks to Argos Services, powered by CLS Southern Africa, the Foundation has been tracking Bheni since his release. This technology not only provides real-time location data but also delivers critical oceanographic insights—like sea surface temperatures, currents, and primary production—that help us understand his movements and behavior. Since 2007, over 26,000 #turtles have been tracked using #Argos Services, deepening our understanding of their #migration patterns and enabling more effective conservation strategies. 🌍 Where will Bheni swim next? We can’t wait to find out! Learn more about how we’re innovating in wildlife monitoring here 👉 https://lnkd.in/extbSHMD Read more about Bheni which includes an interview with our expert Sophie Baudel for more Argos insights on turtle tracking 👉 https://lnkd.in/dQw9RQwE Let’s continue working together to protect our oceans and the incredible creatures that call them home.
