On February 2nd, we had the privilege of supporting Barber Angels from Germany, an inspiring organisation that offers free haircuts to those in need worldwide. Watching the joy and gratitude on people’s faces was truly heartwarming. It was more than just a haircut, it was a moment of dignity, care and connection. At Currencies Direct SA, we were honoured to contribute by handing out goodie bags filled with essentials and treats, small tokens of comfort to brighten someone’s day. The smiles, the glowing eyes, and even the tears of gratitude reminded us of the incredible power of kindness and community. A heartfelt thank you to Barber Angels for the amazing work they do. We’re grateful to have been part of such a meaningful initiative. #CurrenciesDirect #BarberAngels #CommunityMatters #PowerOfKindness Special thanks to photographer Kiara Worth.

The South African rand has faced challenges this week, primarily due to a stronger US dollar and increased demand for safe-haven assets. However, there was some encouraging economic news from South Africa on Tuesday. The country’s official unemployment rate declined for the second consecutive quarter, dropping from 32.1% in Q3 2024 to 31.9% in Q4. This marks a continued improvement in the labour market. Job growth was recorded in four out of ten sectors monitored by Statistics South Africa, with finance and manufacturing seeing the largest employment increases. As a result, the number of unemployed individuals fell slightly to 7.991 million in the last quarter of 2024, compared to 8.011 million in Q3. While economic pressures persist, these labour market improvements could provide some underlying support for ZAR in the longer term. #CurrenciesDirectSA #CurrencyForecast

In the absence of any notable domestic data, movement in the South African rand (ZAR) is likely to track market risk dynamics this week. This could see the emerging-market currency face headwinds as a result of Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on all steel and aluminium entering the US. #CurrenciesDirectSA #CurrencyForecast

Movement in the South African rand (ZAR) is likely to be tied to market sentiment this week amid the absence of any notable domestic data. Trump’s tariffs, coupled with his threat to cut off aid to South Africa could see the rand face significant resistance in the coming days. #CurrenciesDirectSA #CurrencyForecast
