When It Rains, It Pours! The rains have arrived in Malawi, following a dry year that put many livelihoods under significant strain. Our team was caught in a torrential downpour at a feed mill, but Terran Agro graciously took care of us while they dealt with minor flooding. Fortunately, a major service was already in progress, helping to minimise losses. We wish them the best as they complete repairs to make the factory water-tight and ready for the harvest season.

Sense Director, Michiel, participated in an online, knowledge-sharing workshop for the CBI Processed Mangoes project in West Africa. A special thanks to Dibouloni Jean Bosco from AgroDev for organising another excellent event. This project focuses on developing stable product quality, regional diversification, and implementing certification and traceability mechanisms, while also improving labour conditions, particularly for the women employed in the sector.

Tomato Industry in Burkina Faso 🍅 Tomatoes are a kitchen staple, enjoyed fresh or cooked in a variety of dishes, and packed with nutrients like vitamins, antioxidants, and lycopene, which have numerous health benefits. In Burkina Faso, tomatoes are a key food source, and improving local production, food safety, and affordability is essential for ensuring a stable food supply. The country’s tomato industry offers promising investment opportunities in infrastructure, technology, and value-added processing. Additionally, expanding exports to West African markets like Ivory Coast and Ghana, where Burkinabè tomatoes are favoured for their quality, offers significant growth potential. Project HortiPlus aims to improve dietary diversity and farmers' livelihoods by fostering the growth of food processing businesses and storage solutions. We are thrilled to support this project through the production of educational resources and by presenting masterclasses at the HortiPlus agricultural days in Burkina Faso.
