Meet the GM of Eskom’s Kriel Power Station who was one of our amazing ladies graduating from #EWSETA’s and Duke Corporate Education “Women in Energy” Leadership Development Programme for Middle and Executive Managers. Morongwe Raphasha is one of the key resources leading the charge and change that’s driving Eskom’s recovery and our programme gave her the “community” in which to feel safe to make that difference. #beneficiarytestimonial #womeninenergy #PartnershipsforImpact Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd Fasset (Finance and Accounting Services Seta) FoodBev Manufacturing SETA

Driving sustainable skills development across Africa! #EWSETA recently welcomed a high-level delegation from Benin’s Agence de Développement de l’Enseignement Technique (ADET) for a knowledge exchange focused on establishing a sustainable TVET financing and governance mechanism. The delegation explored South Africa’s skills levy system and our successful approach to skills development in partnership with key national stakeholders. EWSETA CEO Mpho Mookapele emphasized, “This collaboration reinforces EWSETA’s role as a trusted partner in advancing global skills development. By sharing best practices, we are collectively building the skilled workforce needed for Africa’s economic transformation.” As we continue our journey of collaboration, EWSETA remains committed to driving the skills revolution envisioned by the African Union’s Agenda 2063, contributing to a more inclusive and prosperous Africa. #EWSETA #SkillsDevelopment #TVET #AfricaSkills #Collaboration #EconomicTransformation #Agenda2063 Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)

Exciting strides in water skills development! The Platform of Vocational Excellence in Water (POVE Water) is transforming TVET Colleges by enhancing water-related programmes. This initiative bridges the gap between training institutions and industry, encouraging private and public sector water role players to provide work-experiential learning opportunities. Last week, #EWSETA, Stellenbosch University Platform of Vocational Excellence in Water, and POVE Water delegates from Latvia, the Netherlands, Germany, Estonia, and the Czech Republic proudly launched the POVE Water South Africa regional office at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS). EWSETA is laying the foundation for a sustainable future through collaboration and innovation in water management. #POVEWater #SkillsDevelopment #WaterSector #EWSETA #StellenboschUniversity

We’re on day 239 of consecutive days with no loadshedding! Without a doubt Eskom’s focus on their people and leadership capabilities as part of their recovery strategy must be applauded. One of the leaders making this achievement possible is Obakeng Mabotja - one of our #EWSETA and Duke Corporate Education graduates of the Middle and Executive Management Development Programme of “Women in Energy”. Here’s Obakeng’s inspiring testimonial. #femalepower #managementdevelopment #PartnershipsforImpact #testimonial

#EWSETA Centre of Specialisation group is now in their second month of training, and the learners are thrilled to be on this career path. Not only are they gaining valuable skills, but they’ve also built a supportive community, forming friendships, encouraging one another, and enjoying the balance of being both at college and in the industry. Initially, some were uncertain about this career path but now, two months in, when asked if they have any regrets about joining the Occupational Certificate: Plumbing programme, they responded enthusiastically, “I’m loving it!” EWSETA in the Western Cape has supported the Centre of Specialisation (CoS) trade in plumbing since the launch of the “It’s Cool to Be a 21st Century Artisan” initiative. Not only have learner retention rates been impressive, but many graduates have gone on to impactful careers—some have taken over family businesses, while others have embarked on entrepreneurial journeys, establishing their own businesses by their third year. We look forward to seeing the achievements of the next group, set to complete the programme in 2027! #careerlooksbright #artisans #plumbing #CoS #itscooltobea21stcenturyartisan #waterskills #trades

💧 Last week I moderated an insightful webinar on blending innovation with indigenous knowledge systems on water management. 💧 We can learn much from how we as Africans have managed water over time and how we can incorporate this knowledge into how we manage our water resources. #water #waterskills #indigenousknowledge #wateraccessforall Thank you to Enlit Africa and Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA) for the platform to unpack this topic. You can access the link to the recording below.
Last week, our CEO Hilton Baartman facilitated an insightful webinar on Skills for a Water-Wise Future: Blending Innovation with Indigenous Wisdom. The session centered on the powerful intersection of indigenous water management practices and modern technology, offering solutions to the ongoing rural water supply crisis. The discussion highlighted the financial challenges of bringing water to remote communities, as well as the disparity in water consumption between urban and rural areas. A key focus was on the importance of respecting cultural beliefs and engaging local water committees in the decision-making process. Practical examples from South Africa demonstrated how traditional water management methods can be successfully integrated with modern approaches to create more sustainable, locally-driven solutions. The webinar also underscored the need for policy reforms to ensure that indigenous knowledge is incorporated into future water management strategies, and highlighted the vital role of co-production and co-creation of knowledge in solving the global water crisis.
