This week our focus was directed to education and upskilling in the medical and fire environments. Both our Medical and Fire personnel spent the last few days with the public educating them about what we do and how we do it. The teams went to a few schools and corporate establishments to do on site training with them. #Training #Education #MedicalAndFireAwareness #JointServices #WhenYourLifeDependsOnIt FIRE OPS SA

  • Blairgowrie, Johannesburg  Tuesday 12 March On Tuesday 12 March at 09h00 our watchroom received reports of a building fire in Blairgowrie, Randburg. As a non-member of Fire Ops, our crew immediately verified the information and by 09h06 vehicles had been dispatched to scene, within 13 minutes of the first fire call coming through Fire Ops crew had booked in attendance. Upon arrival it was found to be a single-storey residential house well-alight on the Charlie side with tyres and debris burning in the backyard. Crew on the ground reported multiple people inside the structure that were being evacuated. After full assessment of the property, crew reported fire extension in the roof void. With the thatch roof on the neighboring property reportedly fully involved, it was imperative that additional crew were relocated to that site to avoid further fire spread and to provide exposure protection. The roof void was opened up and crew were standing by to check for flare-ups.  City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (COJEMS) arrived on scene and worked alongside Fire Ops crew to assist in fire extinguishment, while Medi-Response was on hand for medical treatment of victims and crew. At 10h19 crew started with overhaul and at 10h57 crew were mobile to their respective quarters and Patches. #fireopssa #therealdeal #beprotected #firefighterlife #gauteng

The below once again re-enforced my passion for the industry I have chosen to be apart of and lead. “Helping those in need” - FireOpsSA responds to the call for help. Childs arm trapped in a meat mincer In an unfortunate escalation of events, a child arrived at a local government hospital with his arm trapped in a meat mincer. One of our trauma doctor colleagues reached out to me for help as they were unable to remove the childs arm from the spindle without amputating the arm high up the limb as apposed to at the point of the blades. Our rescue team worked hard in order to reduce the amount that the arm needed to be amputated, by using rescue tools carried by the fire-fighters in order to free the child from the mincer. Under the brilliance of the trauma doctors on duty and under sedation, the child was brought into theatre for the complex surgery to take place. The patient’s arm was carefully freed from the spindle and cylinder and majority of the child’s arm was saved. #EmergencyMedicine #LeadingFromTheFront #WorldClass #Collaboration FIRE OPS SA Medi Response #LifeMattersPeopleComeFirst
