Climate change is a threat multiplier — changing rain patterns, rising temperatures and extreme weather events have contributed to mounting food insecurity, poverty, conflict and displacement in African countries. The United Nations has identified five ways in which it impacts human security: 1. Climate change intensifies competition over land and water 2. Climate change affects food production and drives up hunger 3. Climate change forces people to move 4. Climate change increases poverty and inequalities 5.
