Did you know that pension fund members have to be registered for tax in order to withdraw savings? So says the South African Revenue Service (SARS) which explains that withdrawals are taxed because contributions to retirement funds are not taxed. Hence, tax will be calculated at the tax rate applicable to the individual, and deducted from any amount withdrawn.
