Today, we bid farewell to an exceptional member of the 22 On Sloane family, Mahlatse Tolamo Mahlatse joined us in 2019 as an intern, fresh from university, brimming with potential and determination. Over the past five years, we’ve had the privilege of watching her grow, excel, and rise to become our Stakeholder Relations Manager—a true testament to her dedication, passion, and drive. Her five year journey at 22 On Sloane has been nothing short of inspiring. From navigating the challenges of the early days to making a lasting impact on our team and partners, Mahlatse has been an integral part of our story. As she embarks on an exciting new chapter, we couldn’t be prouder of all she’s achieved and are confident she’ll continue to thrive and inspire wherever she goes. Yesterday, we hosted the Marketplace Sellers Workshop for the Township Digital Market Access Programme participants, in partnership with takealot.com. The session kicked off with a warm welcome from Mmatshepo Koape, Group Socio-Economic Development Manager, who officially introduced the participants to the Takealot Sellers Family. She also set the stage for our insightful presenters, Matthew Leppan (Marketplace Sales Manager) and Melanie Campbell (Group Advertising Team Lead: Sponsored Product Ads). The workshop was packed with valuable insights and interactive discussions. Matthew and Melanie shared key enablers for success on the Takealot platform, including strategies for brand positioning, advertising tips to drive buyer traffic, and maximizing sales conversions through promotions and deals, among other topics. The day ended on a high note, with participants feeling enlightened about their journey on the Takealot platform and excited about the opportunities ahead. For many, it was also a special moment to meet in person for the first time since the programme began. What’s shaping South Africa’s startup landscape? This week Briter was invited to the Africa Early Stage Investor Summit Investor Ecosystem Engagement at 22 ON SLOANE in partnerships with VC4A and Wesgro. We shared insights on the three trends shaping the #SouthAfrica's #startup #ecosystem: 🛣️ Diverging paths: South Africa’s startup ecosystem has been more resilient over the last two years compared to the Rest of Africa which has seen a bigger decrease in funding with the growth between Seed and Series A stage being particularly squeezed.  🚂 Dual engines of growth: A major driver of South Africa’s resilience is its dual engines of ecosystem growth with #Gauteng and the #WesternCape which have accounted for nearly 20% of the total funding to startups in Africa over the last decade. 🏦 More than FinTech: While #FinTech has accounted for the majority of late stage deals in Gauteng, the Western Cape has attracted a higher share of funding beyond FinTech into a range of sectors including #Health and #BioTech, #AgTech, #Gaming, #Ecommerce and #Logistics with notable deals into startups like Clickatell Luno Aerobotics Skynamo LifeQ, Inc.
