Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation is a registered NPO and PBO which aims to remove mental health barriers to education.
About us
We visit underprivileged schools where we provide free screening for children in an effort to identify various mental health barriers to education – such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, visual- and hearing problems, learning difficulties and developmental problems. Together with volunteers (e.g. optometrists, audiologists, occupational therapists and educational psychologist), we are able to provide these services free of charge. However, we are completely dependent on fundraising initiatives and donors. Vision: We strive to provide screening services for the early identification of children with ADHD, other mental health disorders and learning difficulties. Mission: To ensure that all children with ADHD and other mental health barriers to education have the necessary mental health support to reach their full potential.

📖 5 Reasons to Read to Your Child – Especially If They Have ADHD! ✨ Reading isn’t just about books—it’s about connection, growth, and development! For children with ADHD, reading aloud can provide unique benefits that support their learning and emotional well-being. 🗣️ Boosts Language Development – Listening to stories strengthens vocabulary and comprehension, helping kids express themselves more clearly. This is especially useful for children who struggle with verbal expression. 🌟 Encourages Imagination & Creativity – ADHD brains thrive on engaging, stimulating content. Books transport kids to new worlds, sparking curiosity and creativity. 🤝 Strengthens Parent-Child Bonding – Reading together creates a calm, focused moment in an otherwise busy day. It’s a great way to wind down and strengthen emotional connections. 🎓 Supports Academic Success – Kids with ADHD may find reading challenging, but exposure to books in a low-pressure way improves literacy skills and builds confidence in learning. 💛 Enhances Emotional Understanding – Stories help children explore emotions and social situations, giving them tools to navigate their own feelings and relationships. Reading doesn’t have to mean sitting still for long periods—try audiobooks, interactive storytelling, or acting out stories to keep engagement high! 📚✨ Do you have a favourite ADHD-friendly book for kids? TipTuesday: How to Support a Child with ADHD ✨💛 Children with ADHD thrive in structured, supportive environments that help them manage daily challenges. Here are four key ways to support them: 🌙 Prioritise Sleep – A good night’s sleep is essential for focus, mood regulation, and impulse control. Create a calming bedtime routine by reducing screen time before bed and maintaining a consistent sleep schedule. 🏃♂️ Encourage Regular Physical Activity – Movement helps burn excess energy and improves concentration. Activities like swimming, martial arts, or even a daily walk can make a big difference. 📚 Help with Organisation – Homework, chores, and daily tasks can feel overwhelming. Break tasks into smaller steps, use visual schedules, and encourage checklists to build independence. 😊 Maintain a Positive Approach – Children with ADHD often hear more corrections than praise. Reinforce good behaviour with encouragement and positive reinforcement to build their confidence. Small adjustments can make a world of difference!
