Did you know that more than 300 Australians develop diabetes every day? That’s one person every five minutes. Type 2 diabetes, which is largely preventable, accounts for 85-90% of all cases, and is increasing each year.   They’re sobering statistics ahead of World Diabetes Day tomorrow (14 November). So, how can nuts help? Diabetes guidelines across the world promote healthy plant-rich dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet and the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, for managing type 2 diabetes. Nuts are an important food within each of these healthy dietary patterns – and for good reason.   Research findings suggest that higher nut consumption may: - Lower the risk of type 2 diabetes - Improve glycaemic control in people with diabetes - Reduce the risk of diabetes complications, such as heart disease - Lower the risk of dying from diabetes.   We sum-up the evidence to date on nuts and diabetes in our fact sheet for health professionals. The China International Import Expo 2024 (CIIE) is an important event in the Chinese trade relations calendar, and it has been taking place in Shanghai this week. Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) has one of the largest stands in the Country Pavilion, with each Australian state represented under its own banner.
