SAPVIA (South African Photovoltaic Industry Association) introduced guidelines for safe installs, developed a programme for installers AND clients to commit to – the PV GreenCard programme – and then devised an assessment to test the skills of installers who wanted to be part of this programme. When potential installers started to ask where they could access training that would teach them everything they needed to know to pass this assessment, it was companies like GREEN (then operating as maxx-solar) that rose to the challenge of developing solar installation training in line with the SAPVIA guidelines. The 5-day SuperSolarSchool training and the 1.5-day PV GreenCard assessment are two separate events; installers are not automatically PV GreenCard-certified following training. Many of the attendees will still need to cement the theory they have learned and do a few installations alongside a more experienced installer before they feel ready to attempt the assessment. Should you successfully pass your assessment, your certificate will be issued by SAPVIA. If you are not an installation electrician yourself, you will need to work with a licenced electrician to connect to the DB and beyond, and issue the CoC that forms part of the PV GreenCard that is issued for every system installed. The training we offer is neither required nor mandatory prior to attempting the PV GreenCard assessment; however, it is invaluable for new entrants to solar energy, as well as for installers who mainly do the physical installations, for example, and who now want to firm up on their calculations and theory (for sizing of systems).
