Heifer International South Africa

Heifer International South Africa (Heifer) is a non-profit organisation that partners with impoverished rural communities to end hunger and poverty in South Africa and care for the Earth. Heifer is affiliated to Heifer International based in the United States and part of a network of over 50 Heifer offices around the world. In South Africa, Heifer has been working in three provinces since 1999 – Eastern Cape, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal. Heifer concentrates on empowering people and helping them in achieving food security and self–sustainability by teaching them good agricultural practices and business skills, and providing them with a gift of livestock. Our concept of Passing on the Gift® whereby recipients of our projects undertake to share their skills and in time Pass on the Gift to another family in need ensures that our assistance has a long term ripple effect.
