These risks include: 1. Skid entanglement in the net The primary concern is that the skids can become entangled in the helideck net, which may hinder a smooth landing. If the skids catch on the net while the helicopter is still in motion, this could destabilize the aircraft and potentially lead to a rollover or other loss of control, especially in challenging weather conditions. 2. Difficulty in repositioning Once on the deck, the helicopter may need to reposition or adjust slightly. If the skids become caught in the netting, this movement could be restricted. Attempts to reposition the helicopter in such circumstances could lead to instability or the helicopter tipping. 3. Challenging takeoffs During takeoff, a similar risk exists if the skids remain caught in the net. This could prevent a clean lift-off and might cause the helicopter to lurch or destabilize as power is applied. In severe cases, this could result in an accident during the critical phase of takeoff. 4. Impact of environmental factors Offshore platforms often experience strong winds, high seas, and shifting decks.
