A Message From Our Chairperson Warm greetings, As we approach the close of the 2024 calendar year, and while you may be planning a well-deserved rest, let us take a moment to reflect on what we have achieved together at the Institute this year. You will recall that we began 2024 with the appointment of our Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Yvonne Mothibi. She hit the ground running, with key deliverables set for her, including creating and maintaining stability, strengthening internal capabilities, enhancing governance processes, and building capacity to improve member value propositions. I am pleased to report that she has delivered on all these objectives, with the board providing consistent guidance throughout the process. 2024 has been a highly successful year for IRMSA, marked by several key achievements. We had a successful Annual General Meeting where the current board was elected. We filled key vacancies with qualified and skilled personnel, which has strengthened the back office. Our relationship with the Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) was strengthened, offering free access to the conference in Madrid, Spain. For the first time, IRMSA also hosted a Global Risk Webinar, which was attended by hundreds of professionals. We secured access to the Global Risk Academy Blog, part of our thought leadership value proposition. Members now have access to this platform, which serves professionals across 120 countries. The blog offers exciting content on topics like artificial intelligence, quantitative risk, and more. Additionally, we established the Federation of African Risk Management Associations (FARMA), where IRMSA holds a prominent role as Secretary General. FARMA’s interim Council has been elected, and necessary structures and processes are being established. As we celebrate these achievements, I am excited to share what lies ahead for you in 2025. IRMSA is hard at work finalising the IRMSA Technical Library, which will serve as a central reference point for members facing challenges in risk management implementation. We are also introducing value-adding training programmes that will cover specialised topics such as cyber risk and ESG. Moreover, we are proud to announce that IRMSA will host the IFRIMA International Risk Conference on 1 and 2 October 2025, where the global risk management community will converge in South Africa. None of these milestones would have been possible without the unwavering support of our members and management. On behalf of the board, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you. Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, peaceful, and joyous holiday season. Warm regards, Bheki Gutshwa IRMSA Board Chairperson
