Meet our Quality Team. Often behind the scenes but a vital part of our company. Their job is to oversee the entire production process - ensuring that there are SOP's (standard operating procedures) in place to standardise activities as well as making sure everyone is trained in the procedures they carry out. They also make sure that every step is documented to guarantee traceability of the product. They keep us up to date with regulatory compliance requirements so that we can achieve the highest quality product. They get our equipment qualified and our processes validated so that we can keep doing what we do with certainty that our product is consistent. In short: the Quality Team makes sure we are doing quality work which results in quality product. #qualityassurance #qualitycontrol #medicinalcannabis

Phenohunting is the systematic approach to evaluating, ranking and finally selecting elite phenotypic expressions which tick all of the important boxes: potency of active ingredients, unique or powerful assemblages of terpenes, commercial viability in yield, genetic stability and ease of growth, visual appeal and vibrant colours, and definitely unique or exclusive traits. In essence, does she test well, smell loud, stack mass, grow explosively, boast bag appeal, and is she just something special? This process takes many months of ranking and evaluating numerous traits across vastly different individuals. It is not for the faint of heart, the Darwinian "survival of the fittest" strategy leads to many beautiful plants being kicked from the hunt. To earn a spot in the Karoo Bioscience stable you have to be an extraordinary plant. Only once all the metrics have been tabulated, test results have been received, panels have assessed and production has been approved do the winners even see table space in one of our commercial Flower Rooms. That spot is not permanent either, as soon as a hunt concludes we start itching to begin a new one. Who knows what incredible plant is found next? Keep an eye out for new cultivars to come!

Harvest day scenes... Photo 1: Trichome inspections are performed in the weeks prior to harvest. These inspections help guide the ideal harvest period for each crop. A representative number of samples are taken from across the Flower Room and inspected under a high-magnification microscope to assess overall trichome development. As the crop matures the trichome glands change colours from crystal clear, to milky, and eventually to amber, and the ratio of these colours is critical for deciding when the optimal harvest period is. Photo 2: The bucking station where the flowers are destemmed from the branches before being sent to the Drying Room Photo 3 & 4: Flowers being loaded onto the drying trays by the Processing Team in the GMP area of the facility. The Flowers stay here and get tested daily until they’re at our desired moisture content. #karoobioscience #cannabiscommunity #harvest #processing

We completed our 15th harvest of the season last month, setting new company records and making more memories. We harvested a full room of Gorilla Glue #4 in one day whereas we normally do half a room in a day. The yield was huge and the team energy was amazing. We are proud of how far we have come from our very first harvest and have big plans for the future. #karoobioscience #cannabiscommunity #gorillaglue4 #greenhouse

Introducing Lemon Zorilla (Las Vegas Lemon Skunk x Runtz by Ripper Seeds), phenohunted at Karoo Bioscience and named after the African Zorilla Skunk. Paying tribute to its Skunk heritage and homage to its new geographical location. Crossing an old school legend with a new school hype. The result is dense, trichome-coated buds with complex structure, painted in deep teals and dark chocolate shades. The aromas burst out as sour, preserved lemon, sherbet and lemongrass, which subconsciously trigger mouthwatering in anticipation of sour lemon sherbet. Upliftment, creativity boosts and profound euphoria are experiences one might expect from this beauty. Lemon Zorilla, like all our cultivars, goes through rigorous in-process and third-party testing to ensure it’s up to quality specifications. This includes but it is not limited to cannabinoid and terpene percentages, moisture content and exclusion of microbial and other contaminants. #Karoobioscience #cannabiscommunity #medicalcannabis #phenohunt
