After 13 years in the industry, we’ve seen some interesting claims… So, here’s 1 for a laugh! A client once insured their dentures with us (smart move BTW). At a wedding, they bit into a hearty piece of meat and… Snap! Their tooth broke! Unphased, they simply pocketed their dentures (who needs teeth to party, after all?) and claimed for a new set soon after. Molar 😉 of the story? We’ve always got your back. Love is in the air this month and, while everyone’s talking about romance and commitment, let’s talk about another kind of relationship that deserves just as much thought: The 1 with your insurer. Just like the perfect partner, the right insurer should be by your side through all of life’s ups and downs. So, before you commit, it’s worth doing a little digging. Just like you would before a first date. Look for an insurer that’s there for you when: Life doesn’t go according to plan. A good insurer will protect your car, home, phone, and even your engagement ring from accidental loss and damage. You’ve borrowed money. If you’ve ever financed a car, you’ll know that comprehensive insurance is a must before you can drive off in it. But adding shortfall cover can make a big difference. If your car is stolen or written-off, this helps cover any difference between what you owe and what your car is worth at the time of its loss. You make a mistake. If you accidentally damage something that belongs to someone else, that’s where third party liability cover has your back. And, if comprehensive car insurance isn’t in your budget, there are more affordable options that still protect you from paying out-of-pocket for third party costs. Your budget is tight. These days, R1 doesn’t go far… Except at King Price, where you can insure your bicycle, golf clubs, hearing aids, or motorbike gear for just R1 a month. Of course, every great relationship has ground rules, so there are some Ts and Cs. You don’t know what to do. Prevention is always better than cure and that’s why we share insights on how to minimise risks before you need to claim… As well as what to do when you need to claim. Check out our blog: https://lnkd.in/d4NJxP-x Also, your insurer’s promises should be clear (no confusing legalese), they should have a sense of humour (because life happens), and they should make it super easy to manage your policy, whenever you need to and wherever you are. When you’re looking to swipe right on an insurer, make sure they tick all these boxes.

2025 is shaping up to be a good year! If we were on Wall Street we’d say that we’re bullish. But in South Africa, it’s lekker to say that our buffalo are flourishing. The King Price group of companies is confident and optimistic, and we’re looking at our own version of the Big 5. Number 1: We restructured our leadership team and they’re hitting all our KPIs in all the right ways. Our leaders are young, dynamic and energetic, and are already making their mark. Justinus van der Westhuyzen, who was instrumental in starting King Price Namibia and later moved into the COO role in SA, stepped into my vellies as CEO of King Price Insurance. Shaun Hammond is steering our Life business into uncharted waters, and Dr. Eugene Wessels is guiding Porcupine Union from being a homegrown service provider to a consulting company with global impact, successfully servicing all the entities in our group. Number 2: Our numbers are looking like a whole herd of healthy buffalo! We can report 20% growth year-on-year and are close to hitting our full-year projections just 7 months into our 2025 fiscal. But more about that in July. Number 3: Technology. Our approach to tech has always placed us first, and our ongoing investment is paying off. For example, AI manages 60% of our claims, facilitating quick payouts and freeing us up to find new ways to make our clients smile, and our internally developed black box enables us to make big decisions on big commercial insurance books in a few minutes rather than days. Our tech supports our ability to act quickly and decisively, even though we’re an established player. Number 4: Our broker relationships are powering massive growth in our commercial division. We have unique products for niche markets, and we’re integrating new systems all the time. But the key factor here is that we really care about helping our broker partners to do business with more clients, more easily and profitably than ever before. Proof point? Almost half of our business is broker-based! And number 5: 1 of the things I was determined to do differently from day 1: Culture. We’ve always focused on creating a workplace culture where all our employees are empowered to reach their full potential. This year, we’re renewing our focus in a big way. We always say that your attitude determines your altitude and, in 2025, we’re making sure that our royal family shoots for the moon. In the bigger picture, South Africa had a successful election last year. Our leaders have compromised for the good of South Africa, the lights have stayed on for the better part of a year, and business confidence is on the up. Overall, I’m energised and excited about the South African landscape. Within the King Price group, we have the right people, with the right thinking. We’re well-positioned to continue shaping the local (and global) insurance landscape and we’re ready to take the buffalo by the horns.

I’d like to take you back more than 50 years, to when Toyota launched the Hilux. And I’m not calling it the ‘Hilux bakkie’ because, as the latest campaign shows, it’s not just a bakkie. From the start, South Africans from all walks of life identified with the Hilux. It became known for its reliability and durability. It became a symbol of the resilience and toughness of ordinary South Africans. And, you don’t have to dig too deep to find South Africans shouting loud and proud, in the veld, on social media, and even on bumper stickers, about just how much they love their Hilux. With a heritage and pedigree entrenched in South African history and culture, the new campaign reaches the hearts of every-day South Africans like you and me and tells the story of an oupa searching for just the right birthday present for his young grandson. All the nostalgia is there: From sunrise on a farm, to vellies, to driving past lush fields into a ‘klein dorpie’ and then… Disappointment. The toys on sale are all imported, plastic, flashy and unappealing. Oupa has a better, more authentic idea and goes back home to hand-make a toy Hilux, lovingly crafting it from a plank of wood into Toyota’s instantly recognisable and cherished flagship product. And, of course, the boy’s reaction is so heartwarming that it brings tears to the eyes. Beyond being incredibly emotive, the ad also works on a deeper level. The dedication and craft that oupa pours into the making of the gift cleverly represent Toyota South Africa’s design and manufacturing ethos; their drive to make only the highest-quality cars, with next-level attention to detail, for the South African market. I also love that the campaign is inclusive. Elements are translated into isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sepedi and Afrikaans so that it speaks authentically to the South African market. And, just like the Hilux is everywhere, so too are the ads, from out-of-home to print, radio, and digital. It’s just so incredibly clever from beginning to end. It’s a local story, a touching message, and an overarching campaign that you just can’t miss. Haven’t seen the ad yet? Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eMk-ePMG And don’t tell me your eyes didn’t water just a little…

So, you’ve found the perfect second-hand car. The price is right, the colour speaks to your soul, and it looks brand-new. But… Something is nagging at the back of your head. Because let’s be honest, second-hand cars can be somewhat ‘hit and miss’. Particularly if they’ve already been hit by another car. So, here are some safeguards before you sign on the dotted line. Firstly, get the car’s VIN number from the seller. Then get in touch with the manufacturer and ask them to check whether they have any accidents on file, linked to the VIN number. However, this info might not be available, so it’s worth it to do some more digging. Before we get to the digging, remember that you have every right to have the VIN number before buying a car. If the seller is unwilling to give it to you, it’s probably a good idea to skip on to the next car on your wish list. Right. Then get your spade. (Not literally of course, that would be strange.) Take the car to a reputable, professional assessor, like the AA, and make sure it’s roadworthy. This process may also not prove conclusively whether the car has been in an accident, but it should show whether any previous accident damage has been properly repaired. If the car has been repaired after an incident, and is now fully roadworthy, it’s known as a ‘code 2’ and can be insured for its full value. If it comes to light that the car has previously been written-off, but has been repaired, it becomes what’s known as a ‘code 3’ and can only be insured for 30% of its value. In both cases, your insurer needs to know this info upfront. Another thing your insurer is going to ask for, is an inspection. Simply put: No inspection = no cover. Your insurer will also ask some more questions but, as long as you’re honest, you should be fully covered and taking your new-to-you car on an adventure sooner than you can say ‘king of insurance’. At King Price, we make inspections super easy. Our clients can do self-inspections online via our self-service portal: Simply go to: http://bit.ly/42O2M2z

Work? More like a full-blown adventure (with free slushies and popcorn)! We sat down with Sakina Ntuli to get the royal lowdown, and let’s just say… The hype is real. The kingdom is fun with a little madness, from belly laughs to brainstorms that turn into full-blown comedy specials. While we don’t take ourselves too seriously, we take what we do very seriously. Let’s face it, making insurance fun is a superpower. #WowKingPrice #OfficeLife #WorkFam
